Varenna Paradise 2 Apartment

On the positives, the view from the apartment is stunning . However the apartment is not well situated - it is in the middle of nowhere in that without a car it is not in easy walking distance to any shops or restaurants or the main sights . From Varenna , it is a long uphill slog - approx 20 min steep walk up numerous steps up to the apartment . Check in was not a great experience- having arrived by train at Varenna- Esino we had to go down into the town with all our luggage to collect the key . We then needed to get a taxi costing 15 Euros to get back up the hill, past the station and onwards up to the apartment. No offer to meet us or give us a lift to the apartment from the agent where we collected the key. The apartment itself is very strange. It is clean and tidy if a bit neglected . The biggest issue next to location is the bed set up - there is a single bed and then a double sofa bed . The sofa bed needs replacing with a proper double bed - or at least a better quality sofa bed with a proper mattress topper . It was the worst 3 nights sleep my husband and I ever had . You can feel all the metal through the thin mattress and when you are getting in and out the metal digs on your legs . There is no basic store cupboard ingredients provided - we could have purchased a starter pack but didn’t bother as we were intending eating out - however we were surprised not to even have some milk in the fridge. Overall sadly,I would not recommend this apartment.

Walked into the house and the views from the balcony where “stunning”. From there it went down hill. Noticed the bed was only a single, was advertised as a twin. Asked the property manger and the reply was “oh”.The single bed only had a mattress protector on it.We told there are some in the cupboard. There was only one. We weren’t told anything about the property or how thing worked. Got told there is a book there about Varenna. The main concern was to get the €12 city tax.We got more info off the taxi driver as where to buy food. There was only two full bath towels, for 5 days.We had to go to property next door to ask how to close the blinds at night. In the morning ( after a bad sleep on the sofa bed) noticed there was no kettle. Is advertised with tea/coffee maker. Messaged them and was told that they didn’t have in the office. Received another message that tea/coffee maker in Italy was a coffee maker. Didn’t even have one of them.That night went to have a wine, but there was only one wine glass. Found an iron but no ironing board. Apart from the stunning views we wouldn’t stay there again unless all the problems have been rectified.

The view over Varenna & Lake Como was amazing and the smaller of the apartments we chose was perfect for our needs!
