Varenna Garden Apartment

Varenna Garden is in a very good location. A few minutes from the train station. There is also a ferry nearby, from where you can go to nearby towns. Why my rating is 8 - because we are tall and the apartment is on the roof floor and we had to bend a lot. But otherwise, everything was clean, quiet, safe.

This apartment was just the right size for us! Very close to the ferry and to the town square. Loved our accommodations and David really took care of us.

Location was good.

Bath/shower is a challenge. Shower ability is nonexistent due to slopped ceiling you cannot stand. Sloped ceiling in den/kitchen area should be noted as can lead to many bumped heads.

We were self catering so we organized our food from local artisan outlets and Menaggio's supermarket across the lake. some lunches we had during day trips to other Como villages, and our evening meals were enjoyed in some great local Restaurants including Al Prato recommended by Varenna Garden, La Dolce Vita, Bellagio, Albergo Sol Varenna, and Trattoria La Scalpellino in Novate Mezzola off the north end of Lago Di Como, we loved our garden and view across the lake. and hot water and air conditioning were plentiful.

There was nothing about our stay that was not good, a very small observation made by one guest was the ceiling height above the bath, and being unable to stand up to get out of it, nothing that wasn't overcome.

Location was fantastic, especially if you have a small child, minutes away from the playground, ferry port, train station and restaurants in Varenna. The bed was comfortable, facilities were decent enough and the staff were very helpful when we needed them. Excellent value for money especially when compared to other properties.

The garden area could have done with being tidied up a bit. Also feel like the interior furniture was very dated and the sofa was uncomfortable. Luckily enough we had no need to use the second bedroom as our little one still uses a cot but the bed in the second bedroom was very basic and dated. We did have a small issue with our hot water but this was resolved quickly.

That it was so close to everything. Beautiful spot.

Because we were two tall people. We were very good at hitting our heads on the low ceiling.

The flat is well located, quiet, convenient for boats, trains and the town. It has a pleasant little garden with views of the lake.

There are several problems with this property. 1. It is a converted garret, so a person of normal height cannot stand up in about a third part of the rooms — this includes kitchen and bathroom. The only windows are Velux in the roof, so there are NO views out from the property at all , only from the garden. 2. The only shower is a handheld one in the bath. However, the ceiling over the bath is so low than one cannot stand up, so it is impossible to have a standing shower. 3. There is no ventilation in the bathroom, which I would have thought would be against building regulations. 4. It should be made clear that anyone with mobility problems will have difficulties accessing this flat— although this applies to all of Varenna! — down the steep entry steps. 5. The furniture is of varying quality. The bed light in the smaller bedroom was broken on our arrival, reported, but not repaired over our 9 day stay.
