This small hotel is in a home once owned by a prominent Mexican movie critic, hence its name "House of Cinema". With several floors and a view towards "La Bufa" mountain to the southeast, the home has within the last year been converted into a small hotel with every room being somewhat different, unique, in size and capacity, from simple to suites. I stayed in the simpler room, but it was fine and comfortable. The tile work on the floors, stairs and walls throughout the house is very impressive and the hotel was unbelievably clean in every respect--I almost hated walking on the floors in shoes. The first floor is a sort of lobby, also has a kitchen off to the side with a refrigerator, microwave, eating utensils, etc., and a Talavera container with drinking water, which are available for guests. The hotel is on a road (Guanajuato Blvd) along a ridge circling this very interesting, old city that was never designed for cars. So you can get a cab/Uber to and from here without having to navigate through the very congested and complicated streets and tunnels through much of Guanajuato. It is quiet too. But a walk of three city blocks takes you to the Pipila--big statue overlooking the city very popular with tourists, and from their you can take a Fenicular (like a cable car) going 300 feet or so, straight down, which lands you at the back of the Teatro Juarez--and in the true center of town. So with a 10 to 15 minute walk/finicular ride you're in the heart of it all.

"Great place for rest"

10.0

Both Hectors (father and son) were very attentive and welcoming. They are located in a tranquil neighborhood. If you are fit, you can walk downhill to the city center, and you can take a taxi back for around 50 pesos (I dare you to try to walk uphill). I found my room to be very comfortable and perfect for resting.

"Great value"

10.0

I had a large spacious room with a balcony that gave me nice views of the mountains. This was the only hotel I stayed in that had a coffee maker in the room. Internet was decent and the one kilometer walk to the tram (funicular) to Centro gave spectacular views of the entire city. The hotel manager, Hector, and his girlfriend we're super nice and provided me with a guided tour of the city and local area. If you are disabled or have difficulty walking you'll want to take the cab into town. Overall, this hotel provide a great experience.

"Great value in a great city"

8.0

My room was quite large and nice and I had a lovely view of the mountains and a little balcony. The manager, Hector, was very knowledgeable and friendly and knew most everybody in the town. He and his girlfriend Sonja showed me much of the local area basically giving me a complete guided tour. The hotel is located about a kilometer from the tram (funicular as it is called) that takes you down to the central area or you can walk. if you have trouble walking you can easily catch a cab for between 2 and $4 depending on the time of day. You get great views of the entire town if you walk. The views take your breath away. This is the only hotel room that I have had in three weeks that had its own coffee maker. The internet was decent and the hotel is in a safe area. The only complaint I have is that the hotel needs a sign. it took the cab driver and me a while to find the place. This hotel is a very good value and I will come here again. Hector and Sonia will help you with your Spanish too!
