"Overpriced and dirty - avoid at all costs"

1.0

The staff at Riad Darna are young and friendly and do a pretty good job of making up for failings of the accommodation... The roof terrace is nice (though nothing special) and the reception area quite smart. Sadly, after that it all goes downhill.

The Riad Darna pretends to offer a kind of boutique experience, and charges accordingly, but in reality it crams its guests into small rooms in a way that is more like a low-cost capsule hotel (the four of us stayed in a room that has six beds - and the floorspace was so small it was impossible to get changed at night; two of you either had to wait on our beds or simply get changed in bed!). There's also little to no space to put luggage or clothes (it's fine to put luggage on the floor - except then there's nowhere to stand!). However, the biggest problem was the overall cleanliness - the shower room and toilet (one room shared by everyone on our floor - up to 14 people I'd guess) was really grotty, with mold growing around the window and holes in the tiles. The fittings were also super basic and tatty - not at all the quality you'd expect at this price. But worst of all was when I got into my little capsule bed at night - and found a black toe-nail clipping on the windowsill, as well as a nasty pale yellow stain, loads of hairs and bits of grit/dried crumbs on the sheet. Oh, and then there was the light in our son's capsule where the LED was broken, the wires hanging loose and it continued glowing for a few seconds after you turned it off! Definitely not safe - and definitely not what you'd expect from this type of accomodation. During our trip we stayed in both classic riads and very basic budget hotels, but Riad Darna was by far the worst accommodation we had in Morocco.
