Hotel de Trianon

The pastries and cafe were very good. The free bikes were the best way to get around the town and the free use of the washing machine was very handy. The hotel is in a quiet area and access is easy. There is plenty of parking at the hotel parking area which is about 50 meters from the hotel entrance although you can load and unload at the front door. The WiFi was reasonably fast and reliable at around 7 Mb/s. The area is quiet and easy to access. The room was big and had plenty of wardrobe and drawer space. the staff were very friendly and helpful. Considering that the patisserie is attached to the hotel there was nothing edible for westerners at breakfast. We had to take our own Orange Juice, Yogurt, cereal, and fruit. There was no bread suitable for toast, we had to ask for more scrambled eggs as they had run out and there was no bacon or proper pastries. The small air conditioner in the room struggled to get the room down to 26 Deg C. The bed was a bit hard for our taste. The hotel does not have a restaurant available for dinner so we had to ride the 1.8km down town for restaurants. The furniture in the room is a bit dated but functional. Since our room faced the east we were woken quite early each day as the curtains were not black out. The bathroom is clean but there is not much room to lay out many things.

We drove our rental car from Hualien and arrived in Taitung in the night, having made the many sight-seeing stops along the way on Highway 11. Off-street parking was not a problem and we proceeded to check in at 8.00PM for one night only. The guy at reception was not very friendly and welcoming, and English was hardly spoken. Fortunately, a youngish cute assistant managed to convey the basic instructions. We saw him again at breakfast the next morning and he gave us a cheerful “Bonjour; zao an”. There was a variety of French pastries and bread and other Western options for breakfast besides the Asian/Taiwanese fare like congee and soya bean milk. The room itself was spacious but the bulky furniture took up made it look cramped. The wooden trimmings did not help to lighten the place up. Wifi was reasonable. The location was quite far from the city centre centre and we managed to go to the night market on Zhengqi Road in our car.

Good: The beautiful cakes, pastries baked by a vety friendly guy, Ivan. He trained in France and was welcoming. Ok: offered a generous breakfast spread, but more for chinese/Tawainese tastes, i think. Hotel quite far from downtown area, only 5-10 min taxi from train station, though. Rooms quite dark and dated, but appeared clean Bad: A female member of staff ( short cropped hair, wearing a hat) was damn right rude. She treated as if we were a massive inconvienence when we arrived early and simply just wanted to drop heacy backpacks after a long journey. Another tine she glared at me across the room as if I was a piece of dirt on the bottom of her shoe. Upon checkout we asked if she would mind helping to call us a taxi ( very little English is spoken in Taitung) and she abruptly picked up the phone and then slammed it down without saying a word. She was unapproachable and made me uncomfortable. Either she did not like foreigners or was just having a very unhappy day. Either way, this attitude is not great for the hospitality business! If you do not speak Manadarin, I'd suggest you find abother place where you can get more guidance and a friendly service with it. However, Ivan is very friendly and his cakes were amazing, so please don't miss out visiting the cafe for afternoon tea ( separate review written). All in all, a cheap place to stay with very weird atmosphere. Rooms felt like I was in poirot film!

Classy hotel ! Pretty good location ! Direct coach stops from the Taitung train station nearby at corner of Siwei Road ! Got a good rate of yummy afternoon tea Cordon Bleu desserts and comfortable room ! Nice all you could eat buffet breakfast with must taste local farm milk of Taitung ! The hotel owner made me a special vegetarian plate as well ! Got free bike from hotel and rode around ! One famous aboriginal restaurant for lunch is just few mins walk from the hotel ! There's a stop of Taiwan tour bus East Rift Valley line just across the hotel to major tourist sites ! Easy to take coach go back train station take another line of tourist bus: the East coast line !

The reception staff wore face masks the whole time. Front desk people had minimal English but would go and find someone if you asked a question. Disappointing in terms of tourist info,perhaps they mainly cater to tour groups,though there did seem to be lots of families. Decor in rooms very dark and room felt cramped and cluttered. We wanted to make a phone call, but as near as I can figure this wasn't possible from the room despite a phone. Washing machine but no drier. Surrounding streets beautifully cobbled,but dirty and overgrown. Breakfast ok. Waited until 4.15 to be able to check in to room.

We bought coupon to stay in this hotel for Big Paris room in a Expo fair with cheaper price. When we checked in to the Big Paris room, the interior design is very impression but too bad the they was doing painting when we checked in and hopelessly, paint odor was so strong and I finally requested to change room when I started feeling headache and nausea after 1 hour in the room. We was arranged to lower level and a smaller room (Small Paris room) with no compensation, we didn't argue anything because at least we can have a better air quality room. The sound prove of the room is poor, we can heard the sound from outside easily. But they do provide a very good quality washing shampoo and soap. The breakfast is included and too bad we din't really have a good breakfast moment. The first day, we choose the 9 a.m - 10 a. m breakfast slot (the last slot), unfortunately the "left over" foods are not much and the staff din't refill them again. The second day, we changed to 7 a.m slot, it's still a bad experience when we saw some hotel guests from China Mainland return the unwanted / unfinished foods from their plates into the tray again with their used folk when they can't finish the foods. I tried to stop them but they just told me： “ we cant finished it, so don't waste the foods". The staff came and tried his best to stop them when he heard my raising sound but honestly I felt so bad and keep thinking what if the staff and i didn't notice it and the foods were put on the tray again. The hotel served very good bakery! And they do provide free of charge bike for their customers.

The room was Grand Trianon, double bed. Its interior design was classical and the king sized bed was great. Although the equipment was old and the location was a little bit away from downtown, it's still a nice place for staying. Due to the location, it was quite at night.

This is a very special hotel, you can hear the staff's pleasant greeting in French . The owner studied in France or years. When you check-in, you will get a little gift which is a very nice macaron made by the owner. 法國風的酒店， 入住禮是業者自製馬卡龍。沐浴用品是使用知名業者阿原

This is a new looking building on the outskirts of Taitung center town in what looks like a newer development area. The theme and decor of the hotel is based on a Taiwanese interpretation of French "bistro" style which really just means a mash up of whatever french looking objects they can find. The hotel itself is ran like a family style inn. Not sure if it's lack of professional training from its young staff, or whether certain staff are members of the family. Our first impression of the staff was one short haired female yelling at another male staff member. These types of interaction was repeatedly observed throughout our 2 night stay. Another problem was that after staying 2 nights, I developed some rashes on my back, which had never happened before, as I stay in hotel rooms over 200+ nights per year. My skin isn't usually that sensitive, but they don't seem to have professional cleaning. So far, since the hotel is still rather new, it hasn't really shown through yet, but I think this place will age quickly. Another complaint is the utter lack of power plugs. There is none in the bathroom, and there's 1 or 2 oddly placed around the room, even behind the bed. We had booked 1 night, and decided to extend our stay for another night, and they could not accommodate us to stay in the same room, instead moving us to a very strangely arranged 2 queen bed room for a couple's stay. The beds were facing each other, so you always get this feeling there's someone else in your room the whole night. We didn't have a very good stay. So if you can handle the weird decor, strange placement of furniture, and wildly varied level of service, this is a decent choice for Taitung. About 5-8 minutes drive from Taitung station. Pretty good price for the room you get as well. There's also free laundry, if you can figure out how to work it. Pretty good breakfast, with a mish mash of western styled chinese food, or chinese styled western food.
