The rooms was clean and the owners are very accommodating and friendly.

30 mins drive from Hermanus. We saw about 10 whales relaxing and breaching in the local bay -some very close in - and none when in Hermanus. Willy was an excellent host. Omelette breakfast recommended. The Oby Dick pub restaurant is 5 mins drive away and we recommend it too.

Loved my stay at Blougans B&B.

I booked 3 nights at blougans. The first thing I noticed upon my arrival was a pervasive smell of stale smoke. Fortunately the room itself did not smell - although I learned that when using the bathroom I had to make sure a window was open otherwise the extractor fan would draw the stale smoke under the door. I had been looking forward to using the jacuzzi shown in the photos on account of my physical aches and the cold weather, but it was covered over and out of service. The lounge/bar area was also uninviting due to the stink of old smoke. I passed some of my time on the balcony reading, sitting on an uncomfortably hard chair with a view mainly of neighbouring properties, the sea and mountains in the distance. Tea and rusks were provided in the room which was a nice touch. The bed was reasonably comfortable but quite creaky. Breakfast was passable - the eggs and toast were nice, the cheap sweetened yoghurt and instant coffee were not great. After one night/morning I decided to cut my losses, made an excuse and left. While driving home, I received a call from the host about a problem with my payment. I had already paid in advance on booking.com and said I would take a look when I got home. Back home I exchanged several calls, whatsapps and emails with the hosts who were saying that my payment had initially cleared and then was declined. From the emails they forwarded to me it looked like they had just tried to draw twice from the payment merchant; in any case the amount they were questioning was the total booking value not the discounted price that I had actually paid the previous day. Meanwhile they were accusing me of cancelling my card and threatening to take this to the police. I'm assuming that this was an honest mistake and misunderstanding on the part of the hosts, but after a disappointing stay it left a sour taste. Needless to say I won't be going back.
