Swallows Rest

We needed a one night stop over and it was ideal. There were places to eat nearby. The host was welcoming - met us on arrival and gave us directions to places we needed. The gift of milk, eggs and scones were a welcoming bonus.

The beds are available as twin or double on request and are extremely comfortable. We're very picky about our beds and these were better than a well-known 'premier' hotel chain. Great to have two bathrooms in the cottage (one for each bedroom) and the kitchen is well equipped with all that we needed to cook meals. We have stayed here several times now for family events in Allendale and we will always make Swallows' Rest or Dove Cottage our first choice due to the location and comfort. We also like that the cottages are wind / solar powered. Hopefully the EV charger will be working again next time we visit and then the cottages would be perfect for us. There are chargers in Allendale however, so we didn't run into any difficulties. Overall, fantastic cottages on a lovely working farm with excellent sustainability credentials.

Later check out would be amazing, but having said that there was no pressure from the owners to vacate by 10am.

The location was delightful, it was on a farm and very peaceful. We were made to feel welcome on arrival and the scones, milk and eggs were a lovely surprise. The property is very well equipped and was warm and comfortable. It was a real home from home. The location is great for walks and for access to the Hadrian’s Wall sites.

Really nicely equipped property. Secure parking at the back. An easy 30 minute drive to the roman attractions.

Well appointed accommodation. Beds were large and very comfortable. Beautiful, rural location. The hosts were friendly and very helpful. We were given home baking and eggs from the farm which were delicious. Enough decent utensils to cook a meal. Great pubs in Allendale.

The sofa is not the comfiest, and not really big enough to let 4 people lounge at the same time. Ok for a few days though. Not a deal breaker as would definitely go again.
