Finest Retreats - The Shires at Alstonefield

We were very satisfied with our stay and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The house was spacious, well-equipped, and had everything we needed, while the village was beautiful, peaceful, and quiet. We especially enjoyed the amazing breakfasts at Franks Cafe, and we appreciated the many local information materials, maps, and guidebooks provided, which helped us explore the area.

Honestly, there was nothing we didn't like. The accommodation and location were exactly what we were looking for, and we had a wonderful stay.

Very peaceful location, with walks into the wonderful countryside straight from the door. Well equipped kitchen and alot of thought went into the needs of the visitors. Books to read,maps,bikes to ride,etc......

The mattresses on the king-sized beds weren't very comfortable One of the settees in the lounge could possibly need more support

Enjoyed the use of the bikes and the shower and toilet was great

Down stairs was a little cold, we warmed up under a spare duvet

Very quiet, beautiful old house, tastefully modernised, comfortable beds, lots of local information, maps, guide books etc provided. Bread, milk, biscuits, tea and coffee were all there to welcome us. Dishwasher was very useful. Also the washing machine. Small garden very much enjoyed by our 5 year old grandson. Lots of wildlife around the area.

Small issues - the heated towel rail in the ensuite didn't work. Cleaning products were meant to be provided but no laundry detergent, very few dishwasher tablets. It's quite a distance to the nearest shop, you really need to plan ahead. Our shower controls in the ensuite became very stiff when hot, almost impossible to turn. The shelf behind the toilet has no proper support and is prone to collapse. If so it would be impossible to retrieve lost items. Worst of all: The letting agency issued a fairly threatening message on our departure morning, regarding loss of deposit if not out on time. In the event their gardeners actually arrived before the 10am departure time. It seems to me that a little flexibility should be allowed. I don't like their way of doing business.

Very well appointed attractive property with all the facilities you need. Looked newly decorated. Some nice touches like a loaf of nice bread and milk being left and a DVD player with a selection of DVDs to play. Spacious property. Very well located in a small quiet village albeit the impression is that much of the village is made up of holiday homes.

Not sure but, I don't recall the advert highlighting that there are 3 rooms, only one of which is en suite,, two are double and one is a small single room. We had to flip a coin to see who got which room. However all the rooms were fine.

The house was very nice and homily and it had everything that we needed. The bathrooms were especially nice and everything was very clean.

The matresses were a bit uncomfortable for the two adults .
