Dutchies Motel Nelson Bay & Dutchmans Beach Apartments

Great location. There was a top view across Port Stephens from the balcony outside the room. The facilities were relatively basic but good. It was a one minute walk to the pure white sands and crystal clear waters of Dutchmans Beach. Superb water in which to cool down.

It had been pointed out that the room was not air conditioned but did have fans which did work reasonably enough. Unfortunately our stay coincided with very warm humid nights for which air conditioning would have provided us with a far more comfortable sleep. Be aware of this if you intend to stay during the hot humid months of the year.

Premises in dire need of upgrade. Very old and dreary. Overdue for maintenance. Drab and boring.

Awesome location with a nice view of the bay. It’s a stone’s throw to the beautiful Dutchies beach and an easy 15 min stroll into Nelson Bay along a lovely shady path

The fans were good but A/C would have been better. Note the only cooking facility is a microwave

It was the perfect location, literally on the beach. The staff were lovely.

It needs air conditioning. We stayed the second week of February so it was still really warm and the fans didn’t help because they only circulated hot air. There are no locks on the flyscreen doors so you have to lock the main sliding door which doesn’t allow any airflow.

We were allocated Room 1 and confirmed this with the management a number of times via email. When we arrived at Dutchies (after 12 hours on the road) the office was closed (after hours) and our room had been swapped that morning to another room. This room had the same configuration but as it was on the lower level the views were not as good and you did not get the same cool breeze at night. The guest in room 1 said they had been allocated this room but had asked to swap as”They always stay in room 1 and had booked before Christmas “. We had booked in November and have also always stayed in room 1 but because we were not there to argue our case the guest was allowed to swap rooms without asking us if that was okay. I can’t understand why management didn’t just say to the other guest “I am sorry but room 1 is already booked”. we use Booking.com all over the world and above all other booking sites and until now have been a staunch supporter, however I won’t be racing to book through them again as you can’t trust that they won’t change your original booking.

Beachfront, comfortable, spacious, easy check in.

Great check in. Staff communication excellent via text and email. Easy to locate motel. Views of beach from our verandah Room 1 where breathtaking.

Bathroom could do with an update. Though it was spacious and water pressure in shower was great.
