Convenient for the institute I was visiting but far from Tsukuba center. Free shuttle bus is available. Clean basic Japanese hotel if you need to be in this area. Good italian restaurant in the hotel and also fast food and other options nearby.

"A decent stopover option close to Tsukuba,"

Staff had some English, there were plenty of places locally to eat. We ate at Quadrofilio, an Italian. Food was good but no English at all, no English menu either. Staf were friendly and were expecting us

The hotel restaurant could not accommodate us, the rooms were a bit worn. Comfortable but quite dated. A long way from the centre.
