La Varangue - Boutique Hôtel

The room was very pleasant. The vast collection of memorabilia throughout the hotel and restaurant was very intriguing, and the staff was always helpful. The restaurant menu (French) was a treat (a little pricey by Madagascar standards).

Quaint and very thoughtful, eclectic decorations. Created a feel for old colonial Madagascar. Fantastic location. Friendly and exceedingly helpful staff. Very reasonable prices. Highly rated restaurant, excellent breakfast. We noticed that several guests at the restaurant were vegetarians. However, the menu had just one or two vegetarian options, which we and guests on other tables ordered. Given the clientele they should have a broader range of vegetarian options. Also - they should pay more attention to the fittings in the baths, and ensure the water drains properly.

Superb hotel--amazing colonial decor, pretty good food, large rooms with hillside views of town, beautiful inner patio/garden, walkable location. There were a large number of dead mosquitoes in the half-bath of our suite--but better dead than alive, I guess!

Although our room (22) was excellent both times we stayed there was only one bath-robe and one bottle of water. Also the complimentary coffee sachets were not replaced on our second night. As vegetarians we were limited in the dining room. Although the vegetarian option was very good there was only one choice hence we only ate in the hotel once. However, we thought La Varangue was an excellent hotel and it really contributed to our enjoyment of Tana. Breakfast on the terrace was a high point of our stay. The staff were friendly and efficient and the hotel was immaculate even though curios abounded on every public wall and surface. We would definitely stay at La Varangue again.
