"Clean, comfortable, totally fine hotel"

7.0

The updated room was clean and modern. The bathroom was nice and the matress and pillows were comfortable. The TV had Netflix and a couple other streaming services available (you must login to your own account). Wifi was free and worked well.

This seems to be the new trend in hotels, but there was virtually no blanket on the bed. Just a couple of top sheets layered with what appeared to be another thicker sheet in between. Fortunately I brought my own blanket with me, but if I hadn't I'm sure I would have been cold and uncomfortable in the bed. We were staying in the hotel for a dance competition that was being held in the same hotel. Because of this there were a lot of people and a lot of noise. Some of this was outside of the control of the hotel, but I feel bad for anyone staying there who was unaware of the competition when booking. Only 2 of 3 elevators were working and they weren't really enough for the number of people constantly going up and down.

"Overall a decent stay."

Well kept, comfortable bed

Facial tissue and toilet paper are too thin. For the price per night I expected better quality. Skimping on things that shouldn’t be skimped on. Not a fan of my fingers going through the toilet paper 🤮

"It was short and sweet!"

I liked all of the amenities that you provided, such as a comfortable chair, a luggage rack, a hair dryer, bottled water - all hotels provide some of these things, but not all of of them!

"Concern Regarding Stay – Access to Basic Hydration and Guest Services"

2.0

We recently stayed at the Sheraton Baltimore North Hotel while traveling from Milwaukee for my daughter’s appointment at Johns Hopkins after an 18-month wait. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing, especially given the medical nature of our trip. Due to flight delays, we arrived around 2:37 AM and were reprimanded by the front desk for not calling ahead about our late arrival. My daughter has complex medical conditions that require frequent hydration and salty snacks. We were directed to a vending machine on the 4th floor, which was nearly empty. The next morning we needed to leave early for her clinic appointment. The hotel website advertises a “coffee corner marketplace,” but when we went to get water and snacks, we were told it was closed because a conference had requested it not be open to other guests. Later that day, when ordering room service, we asked for a pitcher of ice water and were told simply, “we don’t have those.” Individually, these issues might seem small, but together they created a situation where a guest traveling for critical medical care could not reliably access basic hydration or snacks within the hotel. For a major hotel brand, that was both surprising and concerning.

"Solid hotel, watch your room choice."

8.0

So, I will preface this review by saying: Renovations. Our conference started on Friday. The restaurant reopened after renovations at 1:30pm on Thursday. There were, yes, some F&B bobbles, including the barkeep losing track of her cocktail shaker, no doubt because she was still working out the best place for it to live. So... Location: Pretty good, except for the ice banks, which were not the hotel's fault. If we had actually been able to go somewhere on foot, there were some decent restaurants around (I found one). You can absolutely get to this hotel by public transportation if you need to (and if Baltimore is not frozen over). Rooms: I believe my room had been recently renovated. Everything worked, the bed was comfortable, and the water pressure was good in the bathroom. However! There are three things prospective guests should know: 1. Pairs of connecting rooms are a king and a double queen. Good for families. Not so good for groups of friends traveling together. 2. See the weird wavy wall? The queen rooms poke out and have two windows and tons of natural light. The king rooms are in the indentation. They are caves. This is not the current management's fault. Consider this when choosing your room. 3. The hotel is angled near perfectly east-west. Odd numbered rooms face south. Even numbered rooms face north. Consider this and the time of year when choosing your room. Yes, the temperature difference *is* noticeable. Amenities: There were still holes in the drywall. Our vendors and program people hid them behind fliers. These should be gone soon. Did not use any of the actual amenities, am told guest laundry was functional. One of the rooms available for conference space, though, is what I call "up to code but not accessible." It's on two levels and the disabled attendees had to leave, go around through the restaurant, and enter through another entrance to get to the upper one. We had to put up signs. The actual conference space was good and usable, however. F&B: Alcohol was good. Standard hotel bar selection, barkeep knew how to make the classics, which is all I really expect in a hotel. Food I can speak less to because all I ate in the hotel was catered food and the buffet. Which was a bit desultory and had only one choice of protein. When you have a conference, are only offering the buffet, and people can't easily go elsewhere because the city is, you know, frozen over... They also offered a grab and go. I saw the bar menu, it was also pretty standard. I'd try to up my game given the competition. Overall: Four stars, one taken off primarily for the desultory buffet and partially for the not quite finished (and apparently) late renovations, although that's...mostly aimed at the contractors. I'll probably be back next year if we're there again and have no major complaints.
