Hotel Maya Luna Adults Only

I was in hotel/restaurant Maya Luna with Carolien, her husband Jan and their crew in March this year. I visited them for the third time. The crew, Jorge, Gerardo and Norma, were all still there; the reception is so warm, it feels like coming home... I just slipped through the Mexican (and Dutch) lockdown during my holidays but actually Maya Luna is a paradise in times of social distancing. It is located about 3 km. south of the village of Mahahual. Not bothered by crowds, on the contrary, you often have the beach to yourself. Maya Luna is a small-scale eco resort, there are only 4 bungalows (with private roof terraces) on the private beach of the hotel, and you have your own private beach chairs in front of your bungalow ... You don't have to bother to keep your distance, everything is completely private and very spacious. For me it is also important that Maya Luna is managed as eco as possible. You take your (hot!) shower with rainwater and all electricity is generated with solar panels. They separate waste in the kitchen, and they hardly use plastic anymore. Reducing my eco footprint feels good. It allows me to fully enjoy the beautiful nature surrounding the place, and the peace and space there. And ofcourse the delicious food in their restaurant. The bungalows are basic but they provide everything needed. Comfortable beds, private bathroom with hot water and a terrace with hammock. And all that finding the azure blue Caribbean at your feet. In addition, Luis runs a diving school on the hotel ground. He can take you diving at the near reef, you can go for a snorkeling trip or go sailing with him and his catamaran. We had a marvellous 5 days in a beautiful location 5km from the village. The owners provide a delightful, friendly, informal and very comfortable environment to relax in with excellent food and drink - with no airs or graces. Diving and snorkelling on this amazing reef were very rewarding as was reading on the loungers.

Had lunch at this authentic and pretty place by the beach. The quiet and rustic area just off Mahahual. We had a perfectly prepared lobster and an amazing shrimp & pineapple dish. Everything fresh and top chef level. And service was kind and warm hearted. You shouldnt miss this paradise!

We got off of our cruise ship looking for a piece of quiet in Costa Maya and found our way to Maya Luna. We were not disappointed! Great food, great people, and a great beach. Great spot for anyone looking to escape the commercialization of the Costa Maya and the seaport.

We were at maya luna for three days this christmas and the food was amazing. For breakfast you can order different types of eggs or have some cereal with fruit. For lunch and dinner there are a variety of dishes to choose from - with fish, meat as well as vegetarian. We highly recommend this hotel as well as the restaurant. The hosts treat you like family and were very accommodating to all our wishes and needs. You can dive, snorkel and cayak from the hotel. We would definitely stay here again!

A friend of mine suggested we spend the day there when our Norwegian Cruise docked at Costa Maya. We did and we are so glad we did. The staff was very friendly and the food and drinks were great. The beach was amazing and my family loved using the kayaks! Very peaceful and not "touristy". They offer one day packages for cruisers that was just what we wanted. If we come back we will definitely visit there again!

Maya Luna is a lovely place to stay in Mahahual. Our cabana was super comfortable, the food was really great and we enjoyed meeting the owners and staff. We went on a wonderful snorkeling trip in a sailing catamaran with Luis who owns the dive shop next door. It

We drove here based off a recommendation of a local business owner- he said the pineapple with curry shrimp and rice was amazing and we needed to try. It was! We also had the seafood soup- one of the best we’ve ever had for sure. It was surprisingly delicious! My 12 year old said it was the best of any soup he ever had in his life. It was also great to relax in the hammocks while we waited in the shade with a cool breeze.

We had a lovely stay here, and so did our little chihuahua mix. The staff is friendly and fun, and everyone including the owners took great care of us. We were there for 2 weeks and spent the majority of our time hanging out onsite. We ate most of their menu and I can honestly say 90% of the food is excellent (fresh ingredients, complex/complimentary flavors). The queen bed was comfortable and our door was about 50 ft from the water (amazing). Our dog had a blast in the sand. Couple things to note, no a/c at night (solar power) and the decor is bare bones. Still, we had fun there and also exploring the area (Bacalar, wow!). Overall Maya Luna is a great experience for the price.
