Selina Monteverde - Hostel

This was a great little stay. I was not familiar with the brand and was surprised at all the activities and amenities considering the type of accommodations this place offers. Very impressed with the facilities in general and the staff were friendly. My room didn’t have hand soap and I would have liked to have a couple of hand towels available, and the service at the restaurant was a bit slow, but otherwise it was a wonderful stay and si recommend!

The hotel is nice and they do lots of activities for guests, it is right infront of monteverde cloud forest and 10 minutes drive to town We checked out one day early so didn't manage to get the full experience but I would still recommend staying there specially if you are in a small group or solo and want to get to know other travellers

The hotel is very clean and nice, I stayed there on my first day in Costa Rica and really liked it, so decided to return for the last night there again. Location and the area around are absolutely amazing. Some stuff members of the hotel were very helpful, while others not so much. It was a bit frustrating, but didn’t spoil an overall experience. We were fairly shocked though when we weren’t able to get beach towels for the hours and kept hearing that there was none available. A nightly price at the time I stayed there was around 500 CAD / night and for this price you certainly expect that the towels will be available wiping request. Other than that we enjoyed our stay in Santarena and I want to express a special thanks to those members of the team who helped us with multiple minor requests during our stay (unfortunately I don’t remember the name of the guy at the reception, but he is the best)!

The room was beautiful and comfortable. The hot tub was nice and the food was delicious. Need to hire more service staff for restaurant. Always a long wait for food and service. Staff in restaurant very nice and friendly. Front desk staff not very welcoming, some of them were/some were not. The vibe of the place is a bit stale, kind of soul-less. i think cause its a chain and the ambient techno playing outside makes it feel like youre in an elevator at the mall. Smoking area could use more benches, more people smoke cigs than you think.

This was an amazing stay here at the Selina hostel… My only complaint is that it was a bit far from everything especially the city center but besides that everything was absolutely amazing!

Staff is rude and unwilling to help. It would be nice to let guests know there is no heather or ac on rooms. Monteverde gets really cold compared to other parts of Costa Rica and a heather should be added. Or at least warn guests before booking.

Loved our two night stay here! The property was clean and had all of the amenities we needed. The front desk was helpful in setting us up with tours/taxis when we needed them. The hot tub was very relaxing, and the food was great. Loved the live music on Friday night. Would definitely come back to stay here if possible.

Monteverde is just beautiful, and this location is higher in the mountains, so it's absolutely gorgeous. It's a nice facility built into the hills, so there is some walking up and down, but nothing crazy. It's a fun, collaborative atmosphere where if you are young and travelling alone or with a small group there are a ton of opportunities to meet others and hang out. It's definitely a younger crowd, but as a 40-year-old I didn't feel too out of place. My 2 complaints are 1) There was no filtered water dispenser, which they have at other Selina properties, and I would have appreciated that to be more eco-friendly. 2) The rooms have no air conditioning, which is fine because it's pretty chilly up in the mountains, but there was also no ceiling fan in our room, which really needed one because there is no air movement otherwise. A ceiling fan in the room would have made the room perfect, but otherwise it was still a great room. The price and location is perfect and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

We live in Costa Rica, so have been to Monteverde a few times. This was the best hotel we stayed at. Breakfast was good. Front office/check in staff were not too knowledgeable on Hotels.com, so we had yo question them about including breakfast. They never recognized our Silver status, but Hotels.com compensated for it! 🙂 We paid $120/night and the front office staff tried to charge us when we asked to use two extra towels. They finally gave them to us, but it wasn’t easy getting them. The restaurant staff was VERY SLOW. Totally forgot a breakfast one morning. Other than those few mishaps from untrained staff, stay was good. Beds comfortable and the teenagers enjoyed it.
