Hyatt Regency Kinabalu

Location: walking distance to many places. Went to the weekend Gaya Night Street Market and Sunday market. Just 2 blocks from the hotel. Suria Sabah shopping mall also a couple blocks from the hotel. The Todak food market also 20ish mins walk. Room space is big! Our standard room was also upgraded to City View room :) Staff: very warm and welcoming. Informative and very helpful.

We came back to stay here after 10 years, and it was just as memorable. We were in KK for four nights and chose to spend our final night here. One thing that stayed with us all these years was the buffet—and it certainly lived up to expectations. It’s easily one of the best hotel buffets. I’m not usually a buffet person, but we ended up enjoying both the dinner and breakfast, and the variety and quality were excellent. The rooms may not be as modern as Hyatt Centric, but the service we received more than made up for it, it was truly warm and attentive throughout our stay. The pool, bar, and spa facilities ticked all the boxes, making it a relaxing experience. As members, we also received some discounts, which was a lovely added bonus. There’s also a great café next door that’s worth visiting. Overall, a wonderful stay and one that brought back great memories.

The staff are so friendly and helpful. As if the location wasn’t already enough. Our biggest thanks to Shohel who kept our room so clean and tidy with beautiful flowers and towel sculptures on the bed. The resort was quieter than normal due to the Iranian conflict, I hope their livelihood returns soon when flights and people transiting through middle ease can return safely.

As my wife and I leave after sixteen days at the Hyatt Regency Kota Kinabalu, I'm struck with how much this location has grown on me over our stay. On first appearance, it seems like an old and dated location. It opened in 1981, so it does show some wear versus many of the new Hyatts we've stayed at. However, I've reminded myself not to judge any hotel by first impressions, because this hotel got better and better with each day we styed. The food is outstanding and everyone at Tanjung Ria restaurant practices a high level of service excellence, welcoming us by name each day with big smiles and kindness. Although the gym was under renovation during our stay, we appreciated being able to walk to the Hyatt Centric for use of their facilities, and took full advantage of that. We fully enjoyed the Gaya Street Api-Api Food Market on each Friday and Saturday we were there and went snorkeling twice at Tunku Abdul Rahman, once on public ferry and the second time with Borneo Dream, which I HIGHLY recommend. I was given great advice by the front desk for getting my laundry cleaned off-site at Kye Laundry, a much appreciated referral that I would give to other guests. As a Hyatt Globalist, my status was recognized with an amazing suite upgrade (low occupancy season), and access to the Club Lounge. Chef Rashi was cooking in the lounge during our stay, and he is one of the best resort chefs I’ve seen. His cooking is outstanding, he anticipated when things needed to be refreshed, kept the food full and hot, and showed a great deal of pride in how the buffet looked, always stirring, rearranging, cleaning dirty tongs, and helping the guests have the best food experience. If I still had my catering company, I’d try to steal him as an employee 😆 AND, our room really MADE the stay, waking up each morning to a waterfront view, the boats coming and going, as well as the evening lights on the water. It was a BIG part of our enjoyment. We will definitely return. This is a bargain location for Globalist members that you should not judge until you enjoy ALL it has to offer.
