Residence Inn Costa Mesa Newport Beach

The front desk manager was very accommodating when we arrived early for check in. Daily breakfast was well done also. The mattresses were rather old and worn with lots of creases and not very comfortable. The “penthouse” is just the 2nd floor of an apartment type building where there is a downstairs and small loft upstairs. It was nice to have 2 full bathrooms and a full kitchen. Parking is difficult if you aren’t at the property by dinner time. We had to park quite a distance away from our place. It would be nice if each apartment had 1 designated spot especially if older guests are traveling with you.

I would agree with others who have said they were surprised this is still a Marriott property. This is the old style Residence Inn with separate villas. They are very tired though. My first room was on the second floor. I had no complaints. It was quiet. The neighbor who shared the landing would come outside to smoke, which I felt was within his rights to smoke outside. The problem was my door had no seal around it whatsoever, so the wind blew the smoke straight into my room. So, I requested to be moved. I was moved to a first floor unit. The layout was the same; however, far from the same room. The air conditioning units were right outside the window, and provided a loud noise at a pitch that was beyond annoying. I could hear every footstep from the neighbor above me. The ceiling would creak and pop, like all night. The bed was comfortable; however, the bed would clank like it was about to fall apart every time you moved. To be fare, I could see the appeal of staying here with a family, if your experience was my first room (minus the smoke of course). But, I had an absolutely miserable nights sleep. I won’t be staying here again.

Staff member Nicholas DiDodo was very professional and courteous. It was nice to be greeted with such gracious attitude after a long day.

It felt more like condos than a hotel. Own entrance from outside. Kitchen is great. A little cramped (couch very close to the TV, small toilet area) but extremely comfortable and clean. A very pleasant 2 night stay. Down the street from every shopping possibly there is. I will stay again!

The room had a distinct odor and I get migraines. We left early because I could not stand smell. It might be what they clean with. I have stayed here over the holidays for over 10 years.
