Grand Royal Hotel O'Hare - Chicago

I feel like we were duped. This hotel had a Holiday Inn sign, but it’s not. Nothing about it is. I believe it was maybe one they sold off or liquidated and you can tell. The pictures are old. The pool is having “maintenance” and they use that area for storage. The lobby furniture is in need of a deep deep cleaning. It used to be ivory- the building is in bad shape. It’s not a short walk to any rooms or elevators. There are no amenities, they didn’t service our room at all the next day, so we had no towels. Just had wall units- but it worked!! One room had a fridge, the other didn’t. I didn’t see bed bugs, so that’s good. There is just a worn out feel. I think housekeeping does the best they can with what they have. The courtyard was overgrown and dirty. This was an economical option, due to traveling with a group, we were ok with location because we could utilize the public transportation- hotel shuttle to Ohare, Ohare CTA blue line to the city and anywhere from there. BUT- the hotel was not flexible or shared shuttle schedule- they were not prepared for any amount of people and only brought the “little one” and told us we could wait an hour. So we had to get talk cabs into taking us back? There’s a rule they aren’t supposed to shuttles are running.

Not the worst. This is actually a Holiday Inn that is quite run down but has the basics. Room cleanliness was 6/10.

Hotel has new management and has changed its name but has let the hotel go to pot. Do not recommend this hotel anymore.

When me and my wife arrived, we were told that the room we booked wasn’t opening with the key card and was told we could get another room without the hot tub and no one cleaned the room they sent us to. I was highly irritated because we came an hour away and we was ready to settle down and we couldn’t. I ended up canceling the reservation and had to book another hotel last minute on my wife’s birthday. Completely unacceptable.

The room was comfortable it had ac and heat. The pool was closed there was no notice ahead of time about that. My room key stopped working. Their breakfast that they were charging for is a complete waste it was not ready and it was coffee, cold cereal. When we checked the front desk had an attitude. There was no ice machine on any floor. The elevator was small.

No hot water, and they gave me the wrong room key. No one answers the phone. They advertise a shuttle, but it only runs if you request it and even then, it never showed up. I saw two different couples give up and call an Uber after waiting. I asked for two towels, and they told me they could only give me one. Stay anywhere else. You get what you pay for. There is a nice dive in bar next to it.

This property had a restaurant attached which was very convenient. The staff was friendly and helpful during my stay.

I reserved a room with king size bed, the front desk told me that my room is not available, he said that is only a rooms with 2 bed or queen size, I paid for king size bed room, the elevator are dirty and with cables coming out of the box by the bottoms panel
