Morrillo Beach Eco Resort

We liked the beach and the jungle like surrounding. Including monkeys.

The owner is asking for money on every occasion. Early check in? Yes, 50 dollar. A board to cross the river with strong current to get to the only beach? Yes, but not for free. Meal at evening? Yes, 35 dollar per person. It was beef than. Totally wrong prepared and hard as a old leather shoe.... Wine? Yes. 35 dollar. Tasted like 3 dollar wine.... room cleaning service? Not on this planet. It was rainy season. Pls ask us, if they have offered to bring us to next bigger town. Maybe about 20km. No. They did provide taxi to next road. And let us get out in heavy rain to hitchhike....

All our meals there were excellent and well prepared, sourcing local fresh foods. Cari, Ryan and their staff (Celia, Lia, Gabriel and others whose names I do not remember) were very engaging and anticipated our needs. We did an amazing waterfall hike and kayaked through mangroves while we were there. Cari and Gabriel were quite knowledgeable about local plants and animals. We loved walking on the beach one morning and seeing local kids fishing. Cari and Ryan's love and enthusiasm for the environment and the relationships they have built within the local community were inspiring.

Unique location and great staff. Fresh produce in the food.

Everything is charged at a premium price, 30 dollars a day for surfboard rental even if the beach is only surfable for a few hours. No multiple day discounts, no hourly or half day rate. Charged my wife a full day price just for her to try for 10 minutes to conclude that the conditions were not suitable for her. Our room was completely flooded on our first night, all our clothes were wet since our back packs were on the floor. No compensation or gesture was offered at all to compensate for this inconvenience. 8 dollars for a cereal bowl of greens is added to the price of lunch and dinner. Couldn't get a second egg at our last breakfast. On top of the 400 dollar room for 3 nights, the additional bill for 2,5 days (3 nights) was a whopping 540 dollars. The hospitality by the host feels forced and insincere. To me the "eco resort" label is used an excuse to chase maximum profit seems to be the agenda. Very unfortunate. We will not be coming back nor recommend it to others.

Cari and Ryan managed to integrate their beautiful resort into the surrounding nature/jungle, and they clearly created and maintained a friendly habitat for numerous animal species around (howler monkeys, toucans, tree crabs, amongst many others). We greatly appreciated how they evidently add something highly valuable to the community around, since they enable truly positive communication and exchange between locals and tourists, who get to experience this region of Panama very authentically. We are also grateful that our dietary preferences (vegetarian/vegan) were accommodated - we are aware this is not always the case! If you need more proof of how positive this place is, you can take one look at their dog, Princessa, rescued from the beach some years ago - that‘s a happy dog and this says a lot about the owners as well :) We are happy to have stayed at Morillo Beach Eco Resort!

It is not a disadvantage per se, keeping in mind how local and organic the food is, but this is not necessarily the place for a budget holiday! :) however, due to the fact that Cari and Ryan get all their products from local farmers, we really understand the prices!

Really beautiful small hotel in a unique and peaceful location. While the drive is long, it is worth it and you get to experience being in a jungle with howler monkeys, lots of birds, squirrels, butterflies as well as the most beautiful endless beach. Cari and her husband put a lot of care and thought into the hotel and really look after each guest. The food is outstanding - there isn't a large choice which is understandable, but everything is locally sourced and home made and we had some of our best meals there, as well as the best gin and tonic! Overall this has been one of the nicest hotels we stayed in. For the best stay, make sure to follow Cari's instructions and understand that this is a jungle setting, so there will be some insects and you will get woken up by the howler monkeys (but then if you are to be woken up, being woken up by nature is the nicest way :) We wish we could give bonus points for her pets, the friendliest dog Princessa and cutest, little kitty Tila.

Beautiful place in the nature, stunning view of the bay, delicious food, very nice hosts and team, well equipped for water sports and offer great tours. Lovely hideaway.

Feels like you are in the middle of nowhere with delicious food, monkeys, iguanas, surfing, and a little treasure island. Very friendly staff! Cari and Ryan, the owners, are welcoming and excited to have you experience their hidden paradise. We wish we had taken a book to enjoy between eating, surfing, seeing baby turtles, etc. Great place to disconnect and recenter.
