STF Hostel Mariestad

The location is excellent! Everyone in the hostel was respectful of each other so the place was peaceful and clean throughout my stay there. The room was large and the mattress was very comfortable.

A few things that could have been improved: I already knew I needed to request bedding so this wasn’t a surprise or an issue. However, I had a double bedroom, but was only provided single bedding. So I could only sleep on one half of the bed & with only one pillow, which wasn’t ideal. There were no staff around to rectify this so I slept like this for the duration. I had a fairly severe allergic reaction to the bedsheets. My arms and legs are covered in an itchy rash which arrived after the first night and got worse with each night in the bed. I have not experienced anything like this from a hotel stay before, so I think there may be an issue with the washing powder, perhaps it’s not being rinsed out properly. I’m not sure - but perhaps I would recommend to bring your own bedding if you are able to. Or sleep in long clothes if you have sensitive skin. The absence of staff on site was an issue. They are only around for very short hours, and don’t always answer the phone. The cafe on site was closed as it is the quiet season, which was a shame. Finally, I think the stay was very expensive given the above issues. The nearby hotels were a similar price to what I paid for my stay, and they included breakfast! Overall I’d say it was a nice place - the building is great and it was a calm & peaceful place to stay. I like the communal feeling of hostels, and this is a space where people are respectful of each other. But personally I had a few issues. You might be luckier!

Ambience and location

After booking the accommodation, it was explained in an email that 1 no cancellation policy 2 you need to provide your own sheets or pay an extra 13 euros 3 you have to clean the floors table tops etc in your room, otherwise there will be an extra charge. It is dishonest to not inform the above and make the info obvious in the booking information. If I was aware of this I would not have booked this accommodation. To make matters worse, I believe it is the most expensive hostel I have stayed at.

Perfekt läge, fina rum, generöst med sällskapsrum, tyst och lugnt (inte lyhört), smidig in- och utcheckning (även när det är obemannat), snabb respons vid frågor.

Le prix total est un peu élevé pour une chambre avec cuisine et salle de bain partagée.
