The Pfister Hotel

The Pfister asked for for a review, so here we go: a generous 2 of 5 mainly because of the nice interior in the lobby. We had a serious safety issue on our first night. Around 9pm, someone tried to break into our room, reaching through the gap in the door to unhook the chain. When we yelled, she claimed to be from room service. That alone is not first class. The room itself was also a disappointment. We had originally booked a Premier King, which has no connecting door and offers privacy you would expect. The room we were moved to (on short notice via email couple of hours ahead of our arrival), category Presidential King, a category that doesn't exist online. The room was not of equivalent quality: we could overhear every phone call through the door from the adjoining room, and at night we heard literally everything, including snoring. I leave it there. Worn out interior, a fire and smoke detector hanging lose at the wall. So, not as advertised "recently renovated". Then noise: loud music every night until 2am from above (the Blue?). To make it worse close to the end between midnight and 2pm loudness increased in a "great" final. Tea time: nice food, bad service and worn out interior. Highly recommend to stay somewhere else, completely overpriced. You find better rooms in every Westin or Marriott.

If you want historic luxury, this is it. Exquisite architecture, Victorian and contemporary paintings in every nook - it’s the sort of place where you feel like you should be dressed like you’re going to church. That did not stop us from grabbing breakfast from the cafe in our pajama pants, because the staff is so warm and welcoming that you feel like a regular, even on your first trip. The price tag reflects this luxury, but I was able to get a deal through Agoda that put it in the “splurge” category instead of the “yeah you WISH” category. We made use of both the onsite spa and salon, where they welcome you with complimentary champagne, mimosas, wine, coffee, etc. Truly relaxing environment! The ultimate test, room service, passed with flying colors. Everything was hot, fresh, and packed under sterile cling wrap. The cheese curds are great, as is right and proper for Wisconsin. If you want to give yourself a treat, this is the place to go.

The atmosphere of the Pfister Hotel made us feel like staying in a palace and a gallery of art. I love the motto “The Palace for The People”.
