Varandas Funchal-Near center

Sadly in 2025 there is a large block of flats being built across the street working 8am to 7pm. It’s noisy and intrusive. Using outdoor space was limited, even opening the doors onto the verandah. We have stayed in this block previously and enjoyed it. Also be aware that the walk from Funchal centre to the flat goes up a long steep hill which won’t suit many.

Spacious apartment, it’s bigger than it looked in the pictures, well equipped kitchen, nice view, nice and quiet pool (not heated) and a private parking lot. The location is great, walking distance to the city center (back you’ve to walk up a hill).

The bed was old and the mattress hard. The bathroom need some maintenance.

The apartment is very outdated and could do with a renovation considering the price. The biggest disappointment was the works in front of the building that were very loud since early morning. This is not the environment you look for to enjoy when on holiday.

The location is amazing. Walking distance to the marina, old town, cable car and shopping. We rented a car for $300 and left it parked in the garage. We didn't even need it. One note, there is a very steep hill necessary in reaching the apartment so if you're not in good physical shape that might be a deterrent. The balcony offers great visibility to the fireworks on new years.

Liked the space, the balcony and the amazing views of Funchal, the parking, the location and how close was to the center.. Great assistance from Mr Vitor who fixed the remote controls for the television.

Could not use the washing machine as liquid was not included. Same with other products needed to run an apartment like toilet paper, rubish bags etc. It would be nice to be included not so much for their value (as it is minimal) but more for the practicality.

We had a great stay at Varandas do Funchal. The flat is conveniently located and really beautiful. We really enjoyed the balcony overlooking Funchal. Our host made pick up and departure extremely easy for us (with these included in the accommodation cost).

We picked up the keys as instructed but on arrival at the property we discovered we had not been given the apartment number!! Not in the otherwise comprehensive email which even gave us the parking spot number and the WiFi network and code (which turned out to be incorrect!) Tried phoning the supplied numbers for support for over 30 mins but absolutely no response! Had to drive back to the key pick up office and spoke to the staff. Absolutely no apologies for their oversight and even implied it was our fault for not noticing the lack of apartment mime on their instructions! took another 10 mins to provide the apartment number. Property itself was very hot (no A/C) blinds incredibly dusty and mattress very stained, furniture and wallpaper shabby.
