Zeer mooi boetiek hotel dicht bij het centrum van bergen. En zeer hartelijk ontvangen op de dag van aankomst.

May be we didn't trust our Sat Nav. Becasue we seemed to arrive at a house in an upmarket part of Bergen - very desirable properties in a leafy brick-paved road. But, from the direction we arrived we couldn't see the Hotel name but when we turned round, there it was. A very smart, white building not obviously a hotel, discretely nestling among other properties. In actual fact, we were late getting there and Emma - who was delightful but we never go to meet her - gave us check-in information by text and it all worked perfecly. 'Wow' is the perfect word: the entrance, the lounges, the kitchen area, the outside terrace - all quite superbly presented. Up the stairs to our room which was beautifully appointed with spotless shower and toilet facilities. Very pleasant room - not large, but perfectly adequate - looked out on the street. Emma told us to help ourselves to anything we needed from the fridge in the kitchen - wine, beer, soft drinks (and note them on a tab for payment later). Crisps and snacks too. And a very welcome coffee machine. In the morning we trotted down the beautiful stairs to the warmest of welcomes from the ladies who were busy making breakfast for guests. Nothing was too much trouble and I was so impressed with the way they changed seamlessly their language from Dutch, to German, to English and back again. The hotel makes a play of it being a 'home away from home' and it felt like it. We felt like guests staying at the home of a good friend. A wonderful bolt-hole and a gentle stroll to the centre of Bergen with the restaurants and up-market shops surrounding the ruin of a former Abbey - so much choice, so pleasant. Not far from Alkmaar either, or De Zaanse Schans which is so worth visiting if you want to find out about the Dutch culture and history. We felt a bit like celebrities as the staff told us that very few English people stay. "They all go to Amsterdam and don't look any further!

Liked everything. Hard to pick any holes in what was perfection. May be the room could have been bigger but that didn't matter. No coffee in the bedroom but that didn't matter either. Pop downstairs and a coffee is made for you to take back up to the room. Note: no staff in the evening: all do-it-yourself. If you are late getting there (which we did - ideally check in by 4pm) Emma or a colleague will call you and sort out checking in by text. Car parking can be a struggle but they have reserved spaces in the road, note your car registration number. For EV drivers like us, there are Type 2 chargers within a short walk of the hotel, we used one of two (each with two connectors) in the small car park at the top of the road. Car park charge during the day, no payment at night.

The house had pleasing design features, the staff were friendly, the room was clean. However the second floor room we were given was very small with an angled low ceiling. The AC did not work effectively. The toilet was very near your bed. There was no room to unpack. It was not a “deluxe” room. Although we had paid for 5 days we checked out after 3. Unless you can get a first floor room, do not bother booking.

it was our 2nd time - 5 nights this time - a room at the back with a balcony on the second floor - very quiet - beds are of a good quality - nice design, the room and bathroom - the whole villa is of a very modern design - because of the corona we had the breakfast with enough distance of the other guests and the service of the breakfast is of a very high standard, but with a nice personal touch - e bikes for rent in the villa - the whole atmosphere in the villa is with the other guest, easy to talk with them, something we like very much
