The Dark Horse Pub

For my short one night stay it was ok!:) The room was rather small and could have had the window a bit lower and maybe overlooking something else than the roof so that it could be a bit lighter - but can't complain! The bed was comfy, my room was clean, and there was the bus stop right beside the pub!:)

WiFi started to work only in the morning when I was about to leave, before there was no connection whatsoever... also it was pretty noisy because of the very loud music downstairs, even after 23:00...

On arrival was made aware it was an AirBnb NOT a hotel, and to not speak to any of the pub staff as they have no idea what they’re doing. As we got walked into the room, the staff member commented on the room smelling ‘like pot noodle’ when it was clearly mould. The room itself was incredibly mouldy and dusty. Shower was the mouldiest and didn’t drain, so chunks gathered in the bottom. All the surfaces were dirty. Sure they provided tea and coffee but the mugs and spoons were dirty so could not use. Bed slats were broken. Weird stains on Curtains. Bathroom bin was broken and the toilet brush was disgusting. WiFi didn’t work while the pub was open. Walls are paper thin, so we could hear everything the people staying next to us were saying. Stayed for two nights, first night was the pub quiz which we expected, but pub was open until 2am and an alarm went off - we had no one to contact to ask if the building was burning. Night two was better but still not a good nights sleep with the broken bed. The only positives was clean towels and clearly refilled shower products. It’s cheap and we expected not great but clean should be a bare minimum and also it should be clearer it’s NOT A HOTEL on Hotels.com.

Did not like anything - we actually booked another hotel and stayed else where and came back in the morning to collect luggage as we had rush to go to an event in the evening. Would not recommend this property at all was very dirty and grimy - dust and mould throughout.

I liked how rustic the place was, the room was perfect for our one night stay, liked the facilities in the room and everyone was friendly, the pub is nice to sit in and there are a few pubs in the area which is also nice.

The only thing was the toilet was a bit of a squeeze to sit on if your a bigger person

Great location, short walk from the train station and bus routes. So many shops for all your 24hr needs and a fantastic cafe for breakfast over the road. A few nice pubs about. Mattress was really comfortable even if the bed was wobbly. Great shower and nice quality towels and toiletries. Pub downstairs was cosy and top staff.

Not a criticism only a suggestion: the WIFI password, door codes and an Out of Hours emergency contact number could be printed in the room with the paperwork, would just save bothering the staff when they're busy serving!

I was told the wifi might be "patchy" due to the age of the building, but actually it was non-existent for me! Could also have wished the council had not swept the streets at 6:00am!

Fine as a bed for the night - but it's a pub downstairs until midnight, so dont expect an early night. Quite shabby, smells damp, and grimy. Arrive late, sleep and leave early is my advice. That's what I did.
