"Not unless you are driving a 4x4 "

2.0

Even though I rated all aspects of my stay as terrible, I cannot in all honesty say that it was. I actually couldn’t make it to the hotel because the main road was closed. The Ring road was closed off right at the intersection with the Oxi pass and after struggling in the dark on an unpaved pothole riddled steep one-lane road for about 1.5 hours I did’t have the courage of dealing with another country side road for another hour, and so I chose the safe option and instead of turning right towards the hotel. I turned left to Egilsstadir. I really couldn’t risk losing a tire in the dark on a road which to be quite frank would be against the advice of any car rental company and is against the advice of most travel guides. Unfortunately, I was not warned about the road closure, even though the hotel did send me an email asking me to contact them if arriving late. I asked for a refund, but this was a non refundable rate through hotels.com and they never got back to me. So my rating of my poor experience with the hotel is based solely on these circumstances. If you have a 4x4 and a spare tire, and you know how to change one with your eyes closed on a single lane 2-direction road (like the Oxi pass), by all means this could be a reasonable option. However, for an average traveller like myself, with a rental VW Polo and no experience of changing tires, this was quite frankly a scary and unpleasant experience!!! I would not recommend this hotel to any of my friends or family
