Econo Lodge Kannapolis - Concord

I didn’t like it. I wasn’t comfortable.

The environment wasn’t welcoming, people were walking around being loud, looks like a drug area, also people were just sitting in the doorways of their room with ash/spit cups, heavy smoke smell, my room didn’t have a secured lock. I addressed it with frontdesk and he offered another room instead of a refund. I left to go somewhere else where I would be comfortable with my baby boy who was with me.

Once everything was settled I was left alone

​I traveled all the way from Harrisburg, PA, to Kannapolis, NC, only to be met with a complete disregard for my pre-paid reservation and my physical accessibility needs. I booked a handicap-accessible room and paid in full two weeks in advance, yet upon arrival, I was told no such room was available. The desk clerk I dealt with spoke with an extremely heavy accent and spent the entire interaction ignoring my points, sidestepping the issue, and begging the question. It was incredibly draining to have to spend my time teaching him about the logical fallacy of his responses just to get a straight answer. ​Instead of offering an apology or a discount for their failure to provide the room I paid for, the clerk actually tried to demand an additional 50 dollar security deposit. When I pointed out the absurdity of being charged more for a room that didn't meet my needs, I was given a cold ultimatum: take a full refund and find somewhere else to stay, or settle for what they had. ​The room they forced me into was a nightmare for someone using a mobile scooter. I was placed 13 rooms away from the handicap ramp, making every entry and exit a grueling trek. To make matters worse, there was no handicap parking available anywhere near my room. Inside, I found two beds instead of the one I requested, and the air was thick with an overwhelming smell of stale cigarette smoke. It was so nauseating that I had to leave the property and go to a store to buy Lysol just to make the space habitable. On top of everything else, the TV is completely non-functional, displaying a "no signal" message and failing to connect to any channels. This stay has been a series of failures, from basic hospitality to legal accessibility standards.
