Great location and beautiful building with nice rooms.

I contacted the hotel because I initially planned to come with someone else so I chose 2 single beds and asked them to switch it to one double if it was still possible since I was coming alone. I received a response which told me that someone didn’t understand the message. Since it wasn’t that important to me I left it like that. When I arrived they asked who else was joining, which tells me that internal communication is lacking because by this point they knew I was coming alone and when I told him he clearly seemed stressed even though I said the bed size wasn’t that important to me. In the morning when I went for breakfast they seemed confused to have someone ask for breakfast, even though they told me the evening before that I didn’t need to book in advance since it is à la carte. They asked my room number several times and I assumed the amount would just be charged to my room, when I left he called me back ( I was the only person at breakfast and he was near me when I stood up from my table) to ask if it had the be charged to the room or if I would pay now. I don’t understand why he didn’t ask me earlier instead of calling me back like that. It makes you feel like you stole something. I feel like there are better ways to go about that. But I also feel like the staff is under a lot of stress and I know for a fact that the pay is extremely low, so it’s probably hard to keep a solid team that knows how to communicate with each other and gets paid enough to actually care, which puts a lot of burden on those who do. I feel sorry for the staff so I don’t want to be too negative about them, they clearly try their best and are polite, it’s just that they have to work in a demanding environment with customers who pay a good price to be treated well and who might be a little more demanding than in other places and to do that while you are not respected for your work through a decent salary is just hard.
