All the carpets were filthy. Stained almost black down the hallways and entry area. Room was clean and nice but carpets were major distractions

"No dog-free rooms"

Finally a Hampton where everything in the room worked (2 week road trip and were about to give up totally on Hamptons after 30 years). Anyway, my big downside as a person allergic to dogs is that Hamptons, or at least this one, allow dogs in any room. Unfortunately, this room wreaked of dog smell and I was uncomfortable throughout the stay and most of the following day as a result.

"Hello Mayberry!"

Mt Airy was a great stay. We love anything Mayberry. The food nearby was fast food, though - couldn't find a nice sit-down restaurant. The one we did choose was not at all crowded...

Better sit down eating choices. The one we ate at was non-memorable. The maps we used were helpful, it is fairly easy to find what you are looking for, but not perfect.
