"Meets all requirements for a good B&B. Quiet, clean, very nice hosts."

8.0

Very quiet room facing away from the street - always a main concern for me. Of course, there is zero view from the window, but we were not there for the view. Room was spacious enough, with a desk. Bathroom was large enough - shower stall was large enough. Bed was very comfortable with quality sheets and good pillows. Extra blankets were available in the footlocker at the foot of the bed. All very clean. Breakfast was quite satisfactory, with very tasty apple croissants, juice, coffee, yoghurt, cheese, bread, jam, butter, fruit. Perhaps the option for a boiled egg (no messy dishes) would be a good idea. Breakfast room faces southeast - LOTS of sun coming in at breakfast - very nice. We were the only people there (end Nov) and felt like the dining area was part of our own space. We are working while travelling, so appreciated the space. Hosts were very kind and gentle. My wife was not feeling well, and we showed up a few hours before the formal "check-in" time, and we happened to cross paths with the host on the street, and he was very accommodating, allowing us to check-in early in the afternoon so that my wife could rest. Location is OK - the B&B looks out on a valley with unobstructed views - this seems to be a very rare thing in a town that appears to be a rabbit warren of narrow streets with very high density 3-4 story buildings facing each other. There are several other B&Bs further up the road, but none appear to look out into open space. Parking was on some type of entrance area to a park across the street (free? We didn't pay anything). The owner suggested we put our car there - just 20m away from the door. Internet was very good.

No review is complete without a few constructive criticisms. It seems that in Italy, people set the hot water temperature at "just hot enough" for a shower, but never to "stimulatingly hot". Just setting that hot water temperature 2C-3C warmer would turn a utilitarian "time to clean my body" experience into a soothing "semi-spa" shower experience - appreciated in the cool days / morning of late November. The owners might get more business by advertising: "Our water is HOT!". It may cost them 1-2 Euros more / night I suppose. Also, heating was provided only in the bedroom, not in the common area that we were using for working (except during the breakfast service). There is clearly an energy conservation policy in place! Bedside lamps: A gripe I have. It's as if hosts assume no one reads in bed anymore, and everyone is on their phones. Lights are too dim frankly for reading in bed - a common issue in my travels. Give me a good bedside lamp so that I can read in bed. Finally, the couch in the dining area has seen better days. Time to replace it.
