Silver Gate Lodging

Partially our fault because we thought we booked in Gardiner. We had no idea how remote and isolated Silver Gate would be. The 'staff' was not unfriendly but they were not very welcoming nor did we feel they provided us with the 'lay of the land' as it were. We felt isolated and left to fend for ourselves. Having said that, the cabin was cute and comfortable and the scenery gorgeous, and the access to Yellowstone was quite convenient.

We booked last minute in July so were grateful to find this place available. The cabin is very pretty and has everything you need including fire wood for the outside fire pit. It was good to have a bar/restaurant and cafes in the little town after a long day of driving. Beds were comfortable and the shower was remarkably good considering location. It is basic but pleasant. No hairdryer - no big deal, but wanted to let others know as this was the only place we stayed that didn't have one.

It wasn't ideal not having WIFI (when travelling we needed it to contact family overseas, to plan and book our next steps of our trip and to research activities.) When we asked in the bar/restaurant for a WIFI p/word we were told in a pretty passive aggressive way that "no, but we have a museum right here and activities right on the door step.... " yep, we get it, we weren't going to sit on our phones and play games all night. We paid a LOT to stay here (see above, yep we booked last minute in summer) but it was just ok. Not super friendly, nice enough cabin, nice enough location. Food at the restaurant was good and the museum (Ernest Hemmingway) is interesting. Not sure I would rush back if other options were available. The check out (ie dropping the key off at the kiosk) was pretty average, not asked how our stay was, pretty much ignored. I hadn't expected that from American hospitality... meh. Pretty sure it costs nothing to improve customer service.

Property was clean and well maintained. Young lady that checked us in was pleasant.
