Red Roof Inn & Suites Newburgh - Stewart Airport West Point

We didn’t expect much from the Red Roof, other than a low price and proximity to chargers for our EV. Were we wrong! It’s simple, yes, but clean, well-maintained, well appointed (!) - bathtub, microwave, fridge, even a (very simple) breakfast. And friendly competent staff! At other RR’s we’ve stayed at we encountered sketchy people, poor maintenance, security problems. Maybe you have too. So just know that this one is different, in a good way!

Since I am only looking for a one night stay around this area, this place is good enough for all I need. There are about 7-10 mins driving for food hunting, very convenient. The breakfast is not a full breakfast, but only snack. However, they let customers know before we booked the reservation, so we are ok about it. They provided juice/coffee/tea/deli style muffin/energy bar on the breakfast. The room is acceptable clean and big.

Since our room is very close to the lobby, it has some noise during the night, but still acceptable.

Beautiful sunrise, lake view, and the staff were exceptional. Pet friendly and the rooms were very clean and comfortable.

A new surprise was a "grab and go" sort of breakfast. It included a granola bar - which I really enjoyed, but later was a peanut-m&m-candy (more a candy than a breakfast). They had VERY GOOD orange juice although the apple juice was apple flavored water. The maids did a great job cleaning (we left $ as a thank you). The last time I was there there was very little cleaning done and no grab & go.

The motel should have been updated - many things in room could be replaced. The radio did not work & the front desk said there were no other radios that worked. I am slightly disabled & found it difficult to get into bed because the bed was too high.

Medilla was rude from the moment we checked in- no greeting, no smile, and was completely rude and condescending, but she enjoyed joking with her colleague. She reminded us to not smoke in the room by tapping on the form aggressively and verbally at least twice (we are non- smokers). Next she told us that if we wanted to know which TV channels were available, we could come down to the desk and pick up a card (no other problem- solving). Finally when we didn’t get room service, she told us she would only make a note of it. When we asked for a manager, she told us to send an email (no email address offered). This woman does not belong working with the public without strong remediation of her totally absent customer-service skills. Unfortunately we had to deal with her more than once during our stay; her behavior is in stark contrast to other persons at the same establishment who were courteous and helpful. Another more helpful person at the desk helped us solve another issue quickly, efficiently, and with a smile. Persons on the phone were also helpful. Medilla gives Red Roof Inn a bad reputation, and I will think twice before returning.

Hotel was 5 star except for the lumpy mattress that needed replacing.
