Central Backpackers

Oxford Central Backpacks is an efficient fit-for-purpose Hostel with great staff ideally situated in central Oxford . A comfy TV room , a good common room and large kitchen . The dormitories are well ventilated with comfortable beds and showers / WCs are conveniently close . Only one constructive suggestion for improvements would be curtains around each bunk for privacy .

Bathroom issues

They give you TWO pillows, and the towel is free. Each bed has a shelf, charging outlet and USB port, a small locker, and a lamp. You can open the windows to get some air. There's a dining area, two hangout rooms with TVs, and a clean and decently appointed self-catering kitchen. They have outings and give drink tokens for their sister bar. The coffee at breakfast is free and uncommonly good. The security is good, with a code for the outside door and a swipe card for the dorms and interior doors, which are locked at night. There's free, secure luggage storage, only accessible to the staff, and they give you number tags for your items. The location is an easy walk from the train station, buses, canal, river, shops, and city centre, with lots to eat and do. The people who work there are all very friendly and helpful.

The bar/nightclub a few doors down blasts music until 3 am every day but Monday and Tuesday. I didn't sleep at all Sunday night, even with my ear plugs in. Also, the metal beds are creaky, so if the person above or below you tosses and turns, you'll hear it. Privacy curtains on the beds would be nice. There are no large lockers, so there's no choice but to have your things on the floor, and it's easy to lose track of your personal items under the bed. At peak times, there are often queues for the showers and sink. The guest fridges in the kitchen fill up fast, and it's hard to find space for your food. Since there are no baskets to gather your food, you have to label every one of your food items separately. It was pricey compared to hostels in Bristol and Bath, especially given some of the minuses.

De hostel zelf was 's nachts rustig, maar de nachtclub in de buurt was in het weekend wel erg goed te horen.

Clean, comfy, great kitchen, beds weren’t creaky, short walk into town

A tad expensive but it seems that’s the norm for Oxford.
