Dear Sir or Madam, I am writing to formally express my disappointment with my recent stay at the Marriott Southfield Detroit Hotel from December 25 to December 27. I had an online reservation for two nights for my husband, my 8-year-old daughter, and myself, which I prepaid in full prior to our trip due to my consistently positive experiences with Marriott properties in the past. Unfortunately, this stay was completely inconsistent with the standards I associate with the Marriott brand. Upon arrival on December 25, the hotel felt abandoned, almost like a ghost town. While the front desk associate was kind and helpful, she appeared unprepared, having to quickly put her personal belongings aside to check us in. Our first major disappointment was discovering that the indoor heated pool was closed for maintenance. This amenity was one of the main reasons we chose this hotel, especially for our daughter. At the time of booking—and even currently—the hotel’s website shows the pool as open and available. There was no warning during the reservation process, no notification prior to arrival, and no mention at check-in. We only discovered the closure on our own, which was extremely frustrating and disappointing, particularly for a child. The following morning brought another frustration. Although our reservation included breakfast, there was no buffet available. Instead, we were given a limited menu. When my daughter requested a hot chocolate, we were told that only water was available. Additionally, our breakfast (one omelet and two waffles) took nearly 30 minutes to arrive. While the food itself was acceptable, the experience was disappointing—especially for a family traveling with a child, where a buffet option would have made a significant difference. After spending the day in downtown Detroit, we returned to the hotel around 4:00 p.m. to find that our room had not been cleaned at all—it was exactly as we had left it.
