Hilton San Diego/Del Mar

I had one night at this property, as I was attending a show at The Sound at the Del Mar Fairgrounds which is very close to the hotel. The hotel looks very inviting from the outside, but the building has a really peculiar layout. Indeed, my room was located all the way in the back of the building - furthest from the lobby and furthest from the only guest elevator in the whole building. It literally took several minutes to walk from the elevator to the room. My room itself (much like the hotel overall) felt worn and outdated, with a tired decor and with a view of a parking lot and a busy highway. The bathroom didn't have a separate shower, but forced you to stand in the worn tub to shower. I did briefly try the pool, but the area wasn't that inviting, and there is no pool side service or bar. There is one bar and restaurant on site, a Mexican place, which is your only option for lunch or dinner. Within walking distance of the hotel, there's only a few dining options. Indeed, unless you are going to the Del Mar Fairgrounds, there's not much of interest in the immediate area, but the town of Solana Beach is very nice, and there's also an Amtrak station there. The hotel was convenient for my plans in the area, but otherwise I would recommend a hotel closer to the beach, and a more updated property. Pro tip: stay on the first floor so you don't need to use the sole elevator in the building.

Great location and pool

No soundproofing!!! my room was next to a room with a herd of elephants! They were stomping nearly all night. The room did not have a working refrigerator, it smelled like some kind of chemical deodorizer, and the last person who stayed in it must’ve smoked. The building shell itself is very old and the paint is peeling. It does not have sufficient soundproofing for the typical hotel. It is located near the track and the highway. There are no walkable amenities in the immediate neighborhood. I would not consider this a typical Hilton flag hotel. The one redeeming quality is that the staff was very nice. Would not stay here again.

Not recommended. Over priced, understaffed, rundown and old facility and too spread out. + some maids and front desk workers are very kind and understanding + close to Del Mar activities and beach - room toilet wouldn’t always flush the first time. - don’t get the room I selected in my reservation. I needed 2 queens and got 1 king! I was told that someone else had my room later in the week. - morning front desk staff and manager was very rude and unhelpful - rear hotel sliding door noisy - rear sliding door key lock wasn’t working and manager didn’t care - didn’t receive my special week rate until I argued to get it - noisy highway behind hotel and minimal insulation made for horrible sleep conditions - ceiling in lobby by bar leaked and staff seemed like this was acceptable! The location of the hotel was perfect for my needs. I attended a concert at the Sound, which was across the street from the hotel. It was a perfect walk to and from the hotel. The hotel overall was great with attentive and courteous staff.

I had no issues, so there is nothing to add here.

the clean room could be a little be better!

Very nice staff. Family and pet friendly. Love the outdoor area for sitting and relaxing.
