The Islander Inn

This motel is probably the worst I have stayed in for decades. It was advertised as having a rating of just under 8, and it cost over $400 for two nights. So, I figured it would be a great stop-off for us. It was not to be! The room was filthy with dust piling up in the corners and on the furniture tops. The blind on the front window was damaged, so you could see straight into the room from the outside. This establishment is one of those places where you get sent a code to get into your room, so there is no staff in the complex to assist or to ask for a room change. Although we were on a free breakfast deal, supposedly at the restaurant over the road, we never got it because the restaurant only opens at 11 am, way too late for us. Needless to say, we left after one night. I emailed a complaint to the property and was promised a refund for the second night. That was over a month ago, and despite to and fro correspondence we are still waiting for that refund.

Great location and nice staff

Great location, easy to check in and beautiful view from the front of the property. The bedding was comfortable. I didn't opt for breakfast at the Raven but I do know it's a good restaurant from other visits to the area.

The grounds need help. They have nice plantings but they need some TLC. It would improve the look of the property immensely. The mattress in my room needs replacing. It has "ditches" making it necessary to move to the middle of the bed to be comfortable.

The room had not been cleaned before we arrived. I hope at least the sheets had been changed. Upon arrival we had a dirty towel and robe in the bathroom, no toilet paper, and no soap in the soap dispenser. I asked the guy cleaning next door for supplies. Later when I went to make coffee, I found old coffee and grounds in the pot. The robe that was hanging up had many stains on it and there was so much dust behind the television.

The location is incredible and it has a LOT of potential. The room was spacious and the shower tile was really cool. The sitting duck is an incredible place and I was glad to be so close.

The floors were clean but very slippery and kind of felt like it left a residue on your socks/feet. There were random shoes in the yard and piled next to the office. No staff in attendance, multiple broken lawn chairs and games. The sitting duck had a sign behind the bar that said it opens at 9:30am and wasn’t even open by 10am.

The owners must have submitted the positive ratings themselves because there is no way one could call this property clean or well maintained. It is dirty, dingy, poorly equipped, near zero communication from management. They lied about a free breakfast, the restaurant wasn’t open. It did have a bed and a shower, so I had to give it one star. Make sure you have slippers because you wouldn’t want to put your bare feet on the floor.
