Yeppoon Beachhouse

Beds were comfortable and cold at night, felt kind of private even in the dorms. The facilities were well kept and the staff were lovely.

There was a few cockroaches about, however that's somewhat expected with a hostel and the huge turnover in guests

This hostel is more like a guest house. Quaint and with several social areas both inside and outside, upstairs and downstairs. The beds were comfy and the top bunks were screwed into the walls which reduces bunk movement. The curtains on each bed allowed for total privacy. The lockers in the rooms were so big they could fit everything and had a ket to lock them plus the trays under the beds were useful for things you didn't need to lock up. The showers and bathroom area were clean and although small, were appropriate for the property's size. The kitchen was small but I didn't seem to be cooking when anyone else was, despite there only being a 4 burner cooktop. The fridge I used was clean and had drawers and the labelling system was good. There were benches or tables to dine at. The signs that indicated there would be fines if you didn't wash and put away your dishes obviously worked because the kitchen was mostly ready to use every time I went to cook. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the cafe a few doors down was excellent and not overpriced. The beach was easily accessible and morning yoga sessions were enjoyed there. So all and all Yeppoon Beach House is a comfortable, clean and pleasant place to rest your weary head for a few nights or more.

Without a car the hostel is quite a walk, especially in the summer heat from any supermarkets but at least it's a flat walk. Likewise, not being able to use the air conditioner during the day if you were resting in your room was a downer. I can understand trying to save energy but if you spent nearly all your time in the hostel it was quite unbearable in 35+degrees summer and humid conditions without any air con. The fans helped a little but housekeeping opened all the windows and blinds in the mornings which let in the morning sun and heated the rooms up very quickly. The wifi was only 2G so it was next to impossible to run Zoom meetings. I had to use WhatsApp instead because the band width was so low. The frying pans and saucepans had teflon peeling off so they really should be replaced for health reasons. I always travel with a knife which came in handy because there were no sharp knives to use. Not having a room key was a little strange but knowing my valuables were locked in my locker was fine of me. However, anyone off the street could walk into the hostel since the gate was always open, which might bother some on the security front. Since the gate had a combination, it wouldn't been a problem to enter the code each time you entered the property.
