Hitty-san was an amazing host—he gave us a house tour, treats, and shared the house’s history with us. The house itself was beautiful and had a lot of history to it, truly a museum in and of itself.

Hitty Sun met us at the property, he kindly gave us local sweets, sake and gifts. This is a 400 year old residence, former Samurai home - he kindly gave us a tour, sharing his family history and culture with us. Ilebana made by his wife for our stay, a tea set from the Edo period, his grandmothers wedding dress. Climbing the ladder to access the loft full of family history was a delight for my son and husband! We experienced a true sense of Japanese culture and staying here highlight of our trip to Japan !!

The location was a little far from the city centre, but the property made up for this

If you want to live an authentic Japanese experience, this is the best place for it. It is well located and comfortable with two floors. It is the house of a samouraï built 150 years ago but with all the modern conveniences: air conditioned in every room, TV, WiFi, fonctional kitchen and even a washer/drier. But the best part is the owner Hitty. He gave us great information about Kanazawa and Kyoto like what to see and where to eat. He even showed us some of the family heirloom from his great-great-grandfather who was a samouraï. And he came over immediately when I could not operate the microwave oven. He is friendly, helpful and speaks English well.

Host was very gracious sharing the unique history of the property. The shower was great as well.

The whole experience is extraordinary. The villa is still beautiful and well maintained. Hitty was a awesome and really helpful host. He told us a lot about the history of the villa and his family. If you plan to stay in Kanazawa definitely try to stay here!

We loved our stay at the Machiya. Our host Hitty gave us the best welcome. The facilities are very good and it is amazing to have a house to yourself. We loved the closeness to the station and the city is a 15 min walk away. It was very clean and well provided. We would recommend this to everyone.
