Carleton of Oak Park

We liked the location, the room and helpful staff. The drawback was that the hotel has a very dated sunken lobby. This made handling luggage too unwieldy without assistance. This includes entering the hotel and room, and exiting at the end of our stay. We and our friends found that to be too much hassle to stay there again.

Quiet and near lots of food options

This is a historic property and the age does show, however it was exactly what I expected. The location is perfect! There are several different dining and shopping areas within walking distance. Parking was a plus as this is a highly popular area and parking can be a problem. I would recommend and will likely to return myself.

Centered in a vibrant, walkable neighborhood, this historic property offers a quirky, memorable stay unlike anything you'd find in a standard chain. The building itself is a slice of history. The hotel (built in 1928) has clearly embraced its age, from the charm of the architecture to the lovingly preserved details in every generously-sized room. Each room has its own feel — no cookie-cutter layouts here, every space has something special. Check out the 4-story wooden staircase and the fireplace in the lobby! Yes, the elevators are tiny and slow, but that’s part of the experience. Be patient and remember you’re not staying in a high-rise corporate tower. You're staying somewhere with character — quirky character. What is really special about this hotel, though, is the staff. From the front desk to housekeeping to the sales office, the team is friendly and professional. Special thanks to Ms. Katie Fox in the sales office, whose attention to detail and warmth made our ever-changing reservation experience seamless and personal. She’s a true asset to the hotel. As for dining options, two restaurants are accessible from the lobby. Poor Phil's Bar & Grill offers classic pub fare. The staff were super about letting our wedding party stay till past closing to enjoy our last evening together. There is also La Notte Ristorante Italiano which offers another step-back in time – it features old-school charm with cozy spaces, interesting décor, and a sophisticated atmosphere – and great food! Michael, a personable and professional bartender, also deserves a special shoutout. Highly recommended for travelers who appreciate character, comfort, and outstanding service.
