We had a mixed experience at the Carlton. We ended up cutting our stay short and moving to another hotel closer to the airport. Good: Can walk to the train station, straight shot into the Loop on the El. Oak Park is a charming little village. Lots of cute shops, cafes and restaurants. Easy walking distance to the Frank Lloyd Wright houses and Unity Temple. Reasonably priced. Bad: We stayed in the motel units in the back. It looks like some upgrading had taken place (bathrooms) while other areas are stuck in the 70's. Missing a latch on the bathroom door in room #1 - and door would not stay closed. No soap dish in room #2. Overall just tired. I say "#1 and #2" because when we woke up the first morning, the bathroom floor was flooded - leaky toilet (clean water thank goodness). They immediately offered us a room change. So we re-packed and moved around the corner. Room #2 was downstairs in the 2 story building, next to the staircase. When we got home that evening around 8, mom and 2 kids sitting on the stairs, mom talking loudly on speaker phone. And it just went on from there. I don't know how many people were in that room (next to ours). But there were several adults, kids and the TV blaring. I held out until 10 - then called the front desk. They said they would come over. They didn't. The next morning we checked out 2 days early and moved on to a super quiet, super clean, well-functioning Hampton Inn (Addison)

Perfectly located just a few blocks from Concordia University, could not ask for a nicer area. Dining & shopping within walking distance. Have stayed here multiple times and always a pleasurable experience. Renovated rooms are clean and comfortable. Highly recommend

Cozy, comfortable, and had every thing we needed. It was in a lovely area and the hotel it is a part of is quite pretty.

The site itself had a motel-vibe, but comfortable and safe. It was also quite basic, so fine for one night but any more than that, eg if wanted to cook, it would have been difficult. I would have liked to have had proper and individual creamer and spoons, and not have to waste the rest of a packet collection.
