Older hotel and Moldy smell inside rooms low light in hallways and AC didn’t work properly

Location

The staff at the reception was friendly, but the overall experience was disappointing. There was no privacy in the room - staff entered several times without knocking or calling first. It felt very uncomfortable. During our stay, there were constant repair works and maintenance noises, which made it difficult to relax.

The only thing that was good was the breakfast. We have traveled a lot and stayed in hotels of all categories (also in Copacabana in wonderful Windsor Leme, after we left Portobay), but our stay at Portobay hotel was below all expectations. BE AWARE that you must pay for your entire stay upon arrival, and you will also be charged a deposit of around 200 euros for any potential damage, which will be returned after some time.

Here are the reasons for our disappointment. We stayed on the 7th floor in a room with a balcony and a partial sea view, which is a joke because you can't see the sea from the room at all, not even from the chair on the balcony, but only if you stretch over the railing. In addition, the windows in this room are so poorly sealed that we could hear practically every sound from the street and not only that - we could also smell the stench. People gathered under the window all night, buzzing with motorbikes (smell of smog) and urinating. We practically didn't sleep a single night, we had a reservation for 7 nights. Unfortunately, we couldn't rest at all during the day because they were doing construction work in the hotel. As if that wasn't enough, the front door to the room is half open even when locked, so we could hear all the sounds from the hallway (guests in neighboring rooms, cleaners, elevator). That's not all. The refrigerator is so loud that we had to turn it off at night so we could sleep. These rooms shouldn't be rented out at all. The beds are wide, and the bedding is a joke - one pillow is satin, and the rest of the bedding is of the same quality as in a scout tent camp. The same goes for the towels, which are washed, wrinkled, and not changed completely or not immediately. So you find yourself in a situation where they take away the dirty ones and don't bring new ones. The bathroom is spacious, but the shampoo and other toiletries are below each level. It's better not to use it at all. The whole hotel smells like mold, which they try to cover up with some strong scents in the lobby, but the carpets in the hallway and in the rooms stink. They obviously wanted to "renovate" the hotel with quick fixes, but they failed miserably. The pool is small. The staff by the pool only sells drinks and food.

I didn’t like the old carpets in the hall. And one of the servers during breakfast tried to push the eggs that were already made, instead of making the fresh wallet that I requested. Also breakfast was not free it was RS$90 reais per person, very disappointing that it wasn’t included
