Meliá Costa del Sol

We stayed here for one week, in June. We had a premium room with sea view, 5th floor, level building, room 2526. We stayed on a half board basis. When we arrived, room wasn’t ready and had to wait till gone 3 to get our room. Room was clean, but had single beds, even though we booked has Mr and Mrs with the same name, apparently doesn’t mean you want to share the same bed. They did quickly sort this problem with a bed topper, and it was perfect after that. Perfect location and right next to the beach and shops. Staff polite and helpful. Pool area, ok, but you do need to get there by 9, to get a lounger. Food was terrible, always lukewarm and limited choice. We eat lunch here, then eat out every night. Food outside was lovely and lots of different varieties to choose from. The room we had, offered turn down service, well according to Jet2 website and booking, but we never got this service for the whole 7 nights we were there. Nice place, but the food lets the hotel down.

The Melia Costa del Sol is a beautiful hotel. The recent refurbishment has been a great success. My wife and I upgraded and stayed in The Level (Room 2921). The room was well laid out and had all the usual amenities. The Level Lounge are on the 10th floor was smart and comfortable. However I can't see us returning because the whole (not inexpensive) Level experience was spoiled by the hotel continuing to allow smoking around the pool and sundeck (and we soon found out) on room balconies too. If you Google "The best smoke-free hotels in Torremolinos", the Melia comes out as #1. In the foyer there is a huge illuminated sign that declared that "Smoking is prohibited in this establishment". I would interpret that to mean that smoking is prohibited in ever part of the establishment, but, in reality, what they mean is it is prohibited in all areas, except where it is not prohibited. I raised the issue with one of the girls behind the desk in the Level Lounge and got a "sorry about that but there's nothing we can do" response. I raised the matter in a long letter to the hotel management and got a fairly speedy, but equally dismissive, response. Senor Perez committed to nothing more than discussing it with colleagues, and stated that they were operating within national and regional legislation. My suggestion of a designated, but segregated, smoking area well away from the pool and the sundeck wasn't even commented on. Beautiful hotel, pleasant staff and if you can justify the additional cost upgrade to The Level but only if you don't mind breathing in other people's smoke as soon as you leave the Level lounge and venture on to the sundeck and pool area.

We came to Level at the top of the Meliá Costa del Sol and honestly couldn’t fault it. From the moment we arrived, everything was exceptional. What we loved most is that you don’t have to be a hotel guest to enjoy it visitors are welcome too, which makes it a hidden gem if you’re in Torremolinos and looking for somewhere special to spend the day or evening. The service was outstanding. Every waiter was attentive, friendly and professional, making us feel genuinely welcome throughout our visit. The team were an absolute 10/10 and nothing was too much trouble. The atmosphere, views and overall experience were incredible. Everything felt relaxed, premium and well looked after. Whether you’re staying at the hotel or just visiting, we would highly recommend coming here. A perfect experience from start to finish we’ll definitely be back.

Our room was clean and spacious. The bed was very comfortable. We enjoyed our view of the pool and sea, and the breakfast buffet is always fabulous, even for vegetarians. The location is close to our favorite walks and restaurants. The staff is friendly and helpful. The large outdoor pool is big enough for real swimming and for kids to play in. I think this was the sixth time we've stayed at the Melia Costa Del Sol, and we hope to return next year. We also appreciate that this is not a noisy party destination, but a great destination for mature adults and families.

The only suggestion I would make is to allow people to pick up fresh pool towels at 9:00 a.m. (the same time that the pool opens) rather than making them wait until 10 a.m.

Just spent 7 days here and will definitely not be returning. There are many good things about the hotel, lovely room with Rituals shower gel etc, beds so comfortable, ice station next to lift. The location is brilliant and staff good. The pool area is far too small for such a big hotel, very cramped, we were aware though when booking. However we were half board and found the food terrible. Breakfast was standard okay nothing to complain about, except the poached eggs..they are cooked in far too much vinegar. Evening meal was the worst I’ve ever had in a hotel. The grilled meats were well and truly overcooked and the side dishes were so bland. Fish was better thankfully. There was a big selection of meats and cheeses..but it was 3 types of cheese spread over a very wide area..and they all tasted exactly the same as each other. Very very small dessert selection, the usual dry cake and bowls of mousse. We were able to swap to lunchtime and thankfully the salad bar was ok, we then ate out on a nighttime. Think if you’re on a B&B basis and like the beach this hotel is for you, we will not be returning
