Comfort Inn Birmingham - Irondale

When we arrived, our booking.com reservation was visible on the computer, but the person handling our check-in was unable to "click" on it. She did two things that were wonderful: she checked us in manually and adjusted the price on one of our rooms to match the other room's price: Booking.com had the handicap-accessible room priced $50 higher than the regular room when Comfort Inn does not charge for the upgrade at all. Then, she gave us instructions in case Booking.com contacted us to confirm our reservation since we wouldn't have checked in through the regular route. She was very nice and very knowledgeable. She even made a comment that she had seen us at a local restaurant when we returned from a day out and about. She was the redeeming factor at this hotel.

The price was ridiculous for a Comfort Inn with very basic amenities. We basically paid $175 - $180 per night for our 2-night stay. Breakfast was mediocre at best. On the first morning, we tried it, but we opted to leave without breakfast on the second morning and go through a drive-thru when we got on the road. Breakfast was minimal: sausage links & strange hard fried egg plus cereal. Really, nothing more. And, there were signs everywhere that warned guests to eat in the dining area and not take food to the room. Another huge drawback was the smell of weed that permeated this hotel. Marijuana is illegal in Alabama, but someone was smoking up a storm.

The breakfast location had ample seating and a variety of food options. The property was a short 10-15 minutes from downtown, where we were attending an event. It was close to dining opportunities.

My room was nasty, I found an old cotton ball with something dark on it and rubber bands behind the headboard of the bed. I have photos. The lady at the front desk was very rude. She told me that she needed to see my credit card . When I questioned her why she replied, because I had already paid in advance, she replied do you want to pay more? I ask her why would I want to pay more, the next day I went to my vehicle to find that it had been keyed since I don’t know anyone in Alabama I could only guess who would have keyed my vehicle.my room door knob had white tape wrapped around the handle of the door knob. I don’t know what that was about.
