"Aggressive male manager disregards safety concern of mom & daughter."

My 12-year-old daughter and I stopped at the Pelican Inn during a special road trip celebrating her promotion to 7th grade. After arriving, I immediately noticed our room’s door handle was loose and there was no interior deadbolt. The room phone also did not function properly—it was filled with static, making it difficult to communicate with the front desk. In my view, that is also a safety concern should guests need assistance in an emergency. I called the front desk and requested either a repair or a different room. When a man who appeared to be part of management arrived, he dismissed my concerns, aggressively smacked the handle, and insisted it was fine. When I explained that I didn’t feel safe, his behavior became hostile. He raised his voice, told me this was “the safest area”. He then pointed at my daughter and accused us of having used the room. I became angry, but more concerned with his behavior toward us. I told him we were leaving, attempted to give him my keys, which he refused to take as he stormed off. What should have been a simple customer service issue escalated into an uncomfortable and intimidating confrontation. We left the property rather than continue the interaction. I was simply asking for a secure room or a room change, and I was disappointed by both the response to a legitimate safety concern and the unprofessional treatment we received.

Basic motor lodging. No frills but comfortable, clean and safe vibe neighborhood. Very reasonably priced rates. Would stay there again without hesitation.
