Hôtel Barrière Le Royal Deauville

Historical and cultural heritage of Deauville. You can immediately feel the former glory of the hotel! A real 5-star hotel. Friendly and helpful staff, even though you don't always get what you ask for quickly. Excellent concierge service and reception. Super location, great breakfast. Great ocean view.

Needs renovation. Otherwise everything is at a high level.

The location is perfect. town itself is amazing.

Hotel is very old and they mean very old. I had a 90 meter room which had only one toilet which is not very nice. The balcony was very small and the paint was peeling off the facade around my balcony. I’m not sure they have a lot of options in this town therefore this hotel can make so much money. Oh yes room service was total crap, I ordered room service two times both times they didn’t bring half of what I ordered. People should know English working in establishments like that.

Pour résumer : Un accueil déplorable (aucune information donnée à l’arrivée) - hôtel pas kids friendly (pas le choix que de dîner au bar. J’avais payé une demi pension résultat : j’ai payé plus que cela ne m’a couté.) - la chambre était propre mais de la moisissure en bas de la douche / toilettes + un bruit de chasse d’eau toute la nuit - on a l’impression de déranger le personnel quand on pose le peu de questions - on était au septième (l’ascenseur met un peu de temps avant d’arriver. Les bouchons)

J’aime beaucoup ces hôtels à l’ancienne. Malheureusement le service n’est plus à la hauteur, mais j’aime bien ce côté ancré dans le temps.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Le Royal as a break from our busy sight seeing itinerary in Paris this July. We soon fell in love with Deauville and its people. The staff is by far the hotel’s greatest asset after location. Kind, knowledgeable, and welcoming, they were a highlight of our stay, especially Fabien at the Concierge desk who offered the very best recommendations on where to eat. I would let him point you in the direction of every meal and cocktail so you can avoid the tourist traps. It was clear that the hotel had once been a beacon of elegance and its rich history permeated every aspect of our experience. When we first arrived, I admit to being disappointed to find the hotel wore clear marks of her age. Distressed paint, aging carpets and dated bathrooms were prevalent and unexpected given they were not reflected in any of the online photography. As an American, distress and age in a building are usually a sign of lack of care and upkeep, but it’s clear that is not the case at the Le Royal, a building whose long history might be reflected in her appearance but whose long commitment to excellence and elegance overshadows the chipped paint. Expectations are so often the thief of joy, and so I suggest you set yours accordingly and then look past these little details to imagine life here during its heyday so you can enjoy both the hotel and the town’s many charms. One other thing worth noting is that we’d come in search of a beach holiday, but the weather was less than accommodating, so pack your swimsuit but make backup plans for how to spend your time. For us, when the sun failed to make an appearance, we enjoyed exploring Deauville and the nearby medieval towns. With its distance just a 2 hour train ride away from Paris, it’s a great place to break from busy city life
