The Esquire Hotel Downtown Gastonia, an Ascend Collection Hotel

Great architecture. Interesting place to stay. It was fine with me, but my room was very small.

Air conditioning made a whining noise all night. There was hair and a piece something on the bed sheet.

Perfect room And clean

It’s a beautifully restored building, I loved all of the old details, i.e. the hardwood floors, the high ceilings, the marble floors in the bathrooms and hallways, and all of the Art Deco decor and touches. It was impeccably clean and smelled nice ( or did not smell at all, which is even better when it comes to your actual room). The staff was friendly and accommodating, and both the check in and check out were a breeze. The roof top terrace was quite beautiful as well, and even though our stay was very short, it could be a great space for hanging out any time of day. The parking was plentiful and free.

Both the room and the bathroom were very small, with barely any space to put your things. No dresser, not even a hook to hang your jacket. Same for the bathroom, barely any room to place the toiletries on. A couple of hooks and a small shelf would be a great improvement IMO. The breakfast was a huge disappointment. While we weren’t looking for a custom-made breakfast ( even though it would have been wonderful to have), the offerings were not just small, but downright pathetic. Even basics like hot water for tea, or even milk for the few cereals that were offered, were not available. In order to get coffee, you had to go back up to the lobby, and to be honest, it wasn’t worth the trip as the coffee available there was barely drinkable. The coffee bar that the breakfast ( if you can even call it that) was being offered is located in the basement, and while very pretty, the space is cavernous and smells very musty and kind of unpleasant. Having a nice coffee machine could have an actual bonus of producing a nice smell of freshly-brewed coffee to cover up that musty basement smell. Just a thought.

Front desk was friendly and accommodating; small but cute rooms. If you need a desk in your room to work, remember to ask upfront.

What a beautiful historic property! The staff was so helpful and informed us of the history of the building. The view is amazing from the rood top terrace. The room was comfortable and the bathroom was a good size for a historic building. We plan to stay here again when we are in the area.

The restaurant and bar is amazing. Fantastic food and the drink selection great. The staff so sweet. The rooms were great. Across the street the wandering cup was fantastic. Lavendar Latte.. the best!

I enjoyed me stay. Staff was accommodating and helpful and the property was very safe and clean.

Other than it being clean and people being nice there was a few problems with the way it is being run. Wanted to get ice in my bucket and couldn’t find any ice on floor. Called front desk and they said I would have to bring bucket down to them and when I did they said they had to go to basement to get ice. Breakfast was not really a breakfast. Had little boxes of cereal and if you wanted coffee you had to go upstairs and get it from the front desk. But very clean place and people really nice

Very clean! Awesome staff! Super convenient location! Only downside was breakfast had limited options. Highly recommend!
