"Worst Hotel Staff Ever!!!"

Most snooty hotel ever. Arrived after a long workday in LA to the worst hotel staff ever. Unbeknownst to me the hotel was having some party for horse racing. I had no interest in the ongoing frat party and just wanted to pick up the room keys to a room my husband had already checked in to. But first I was verbally accosted because I did not have a wristband. What? I just want to get the key to my room and had no interest in whatever party was happening. After being told to speak to this person and then that person and then referred back to the same person I started with, one kind lady was able to get me to the front desk so that I could pick up my key. Ok fine, I get to the room and then step out to get a drink from the bar. First question, “where is your wrist band?” “Um, it’s in the room.” I don’t even care about this middle age frat party. I try to order a glass of wine and all they had was the most foul tasting grape flavored concoction I have ever tried. Yuck! So I walk down the street to get a bottle of decent wine. At this point, I just want to go to my room. Then I am stopped by at least 4 people telling me that I can’t bring my own bottle of wine to my own hotel room. What? Are you kidding me? Worst hotel customer service experience ever! And please tell the staff that, “We have this party every year” is not the right answer. Had no interest in this stupid party and just wanted a relaxing evening in my over priced hotel room. Hire better people.

"Terrific location for walking the village and to the beach"

We were drawn to stay due to the hotel's ideal location in Del Mar Village + being featured in Amex's Fine Hotels & Resorts program. We booked the reservation under Amex's Fine Hotels & Resorts program which, among other thing, promised that we could check into a room as early as noon. When we arrived at about 12:45, our room was not available, nor did we receive a text as promised to alert us as to when the room was cleaned and ready. I proactively returned to the desk at 1:30 pm and was told that, in fact, our room was now available. We also did not feel as if front desk staff were as familiar with the FH&R package as they should have been--given that the hotel has been a member of this program for several years. As one benefit of the FH&R package, we were supposed to receive an available upgrade. This staff person told us that we were upgraded but did not explain the different room categories. As a result, we had to do our own investigation once we got into our room to realize that the room we did receive was, indeed, a very nice upgrade. The room we were assigned was a Cabana King. These rooms are on the first floor and come with a large patio area that comes with a table and chairs, as well as a structure that includes fabric that can be pulled closed for some privacy. Our room overlooked the pool, but also provided a glimpse of the ocean in the distance from certain angles. Very nice. (See photos) The room itself was attractively furnished and, unusual for a hotel room, had plenty of storage for clothes (hanging closet room and drawers). We were a bit underwhelmed at the modest size of the pool, as well as how relatively few lounge chairs were available, especially if one wanted to sit under an umbrella or other shade. But we were pleasantly surprised at the reasonable prices at Adelaide for breakfast and brunch/lunch, especially given the high quality of the food and the extremely pleasant setting with the pool and ocean backdrop. (See photos) The location of the hotel makes this property extra special. It is on the main street that comprises Del Mar Village, which is filled with restaurants and shops. That means there are plenty of choices to walk to places to eat, from fancy to casual. A nice park overlooking the ocean is a block away, and a nice, paved trail behind the hotel takes you to the beach in a few minutes. The views are wonderful the whole way down, and the beach is broad and clean. (See photos). If you have a car, valet parking is available (and expensive) but you won’t have to drive anywhere once you check in. The initial staff person at check out was unfamiliar with Amex's Fine Hotels & Resort package and had trouble explaining the various credits that should have been reflected on our folio. When she had to depart for lunch, another staff person took over and patiently answered all of our questions. As it turned out, the folio initially included a coffee shop charge that was not ours; and failed to reduce the Resort Amenities Fee from $60 to reflect the FH&R benefits. The second staffer handled the matter professionally, efficiently, and patiently. In light of the errors on our folio, this staffer went the extra mile to assure us that our business was valued and that we received every benefit of the FH&R package to which we were entitled.

"Beautiful hotel. Great staff. Pool situation needs work."

The hotel was very nice. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel was beautiful. I’m hesitant to give a 4/5 because of the swimming pool situation. There were guests staying or were owners of the condos (who are also allowed to use the pool) who would hold rows of chairs and not use them all. When guests asked to use them, the condo people said that they were taken. They could get feisty. These people were inconsiderate and it’s unfortunate that they resulted in a negative view for us. Other guests complained as well. I would go back if they could resolve this pool situation. There needs to be a clear and understood rule that you can’t hold chairs for more than an hour or two. They seemed to act entitled. They should not do this when the hotel is crowded. Credit to the pool staff on trying to deal with the situation. This is a small pool. I wouldn’t expect this at a high end hotel. I feel bad leaving a bad review given we did like the hotel, but this aspect ruined it for us. Please resolve this! And we would be back. Keep us posted.

"Great location, but eat elsewhere"

Beautiful hotel at a great location. Amazing to be able to take a short walk down the path to the beach and stroll. Also, the staff was absolutely wonderful! Only two issues with our stay: The breafast at the restaurant was not great. We tried different dishes each day and they were all bland. The other issue was there seemed to be a problem regulating the hot water in our room. To be clear, we had hot water, it just fluctuated between hot and cold without ever turning the knobs (sink and shower).

"Overpriced mediocrity in a beautiful location."

First the positive, the views are lovely and the staff is very friendly and professional. The concierge, housekeepers and the front desk staff are all wonderful. Unfortunately, they spent a good deal of time smiling and saying. "I'm Sorry." The rooms are chain hotel quality with worn towels, cheap furniture and stained cracked marble in the tiny bathroom. The bath products are all scented and not high end quality. The bugs on the floor were no extra charge! The pool is NOT heated. I specifically inquired about the pool before we booked and was told it was heated to 81-82 degrees, it was 78. This had been reported multiple times an ignored.There were unsupervised children running all over the pool area hitting balls and using the hot tub to wash their toys. There are so many dogs. I was greeted by a large dog jumping up and barking at me as I enter the lobby one morning. I would love to know what the multi-million dollar added luxury was spent on. My husband called the general manager our first day there and his call was never returned. We later learned he no longer worked there. This was so disappointing that we left a day early. When I was finally able to speak with a management person, they did give us a discount to their credit. We love this area but this property is just not worth the price .

"A Beautiful Hotel with Service Above and Beyond!"

We stayed at L'Auberge Del Mar in June 2025 for a long wedding weekend involving many on site events with friends and family. This luxurious boutique hotel, with ocean views is absolutely lovely. The 5th star at any hotel is always earned by the quality of their customer service. The staff at L'Auberge went above and beyond and certainly earned their 5th star by the friendly and efficient way they take care of guests. While service in all areas was excellent, we especially would like to compliment the valet, bell and shuttle staff out front for the amazing way they took care of guests to keep things moving even when events being hosted at the hotel brought many people to the same area at the same time. These guys were the best....so friendly and helpful. Wish we remembered all their names.....we do remember Sol and Sean and we can't even begin to say enough complimentary things about how well these guys do their jobs. We breezed to and from every place and event we had scheduled with the help of these awesome guys. Keep up the good work! Also, the hotel has been recently remodeled and the rooms are absolutely lovely with many luxurious features. The ones with a view make the stay that much more pleasant. This will definitely be our go to hotel next time we are in Del Mar.
