"Disappointing but tolerable"

6.0

The woman behind the desk was reading her book when I checked in. She tried to charge me twice for parking but quickly fixed it when I called out her error. The beds are comfortable but the room shows wear and tear with the windows looking like they’ve seen better days and spots on the ceiling. Your choices in Alexandria are pretty limited but I would try something else.

"Convenient stay"

8.0

The hotel is older so it doesn't have some of the amenities that the newer courtyards have. The neighborhood is quiet and adjacent to everything. They have a great evening & overnight shift. They were so helpful and accomodating. The morning crew needs some work, they are not pleasant or welcoming.

"Slept in a bed with a biohazard"

2.0

I checked in on Friday, July 4th and then went out for the holiday. When I returned later that night, I was tired and just crashed in the bed. The next night, when I got into bed and pulled up the covers, I saw what was obviously blood at the top of the comforter. This was not my blood and is a biohazard. The hotel only had one person working at time at the front desk on this busy weekend. I had already had a doorlock problem with dead batteries in the door that took almost an hour to fix. I was nice to desk clerk and showed her the photo. She offered to have me move to another room and to take off my parking ($30 for two nights) and to give me a breakfast sandwich in the morning. I thought this was nice of her as she said she wasn't authorized to do anything else for me and no one else was working who could. If I had left, I would have still had to pay as Marriott automatically charges once you have passed the cancellation option. The next morning, I checked out and talked the morning person who was also not authorized to do anything other than give me a few points (5,000 and you can't get any room for a night for less than 20,000). When I got to my car, I immediately called Marriott to file a complaint. I have spent the last two days calling back to corporate and they decided to close my case since i was give $39 in value and few points. The charge to my credit card for the two nights is $390. I expected to at least get back the charges for the first night. As a business professor who teaches hotel management, I would be telling my students to reverse all charges and apologixe profusely. I received an email from the hotel manager in training who told me that due to my accepting the parking and the sandwich, for the dirty sheets and no mention of the biohazard, she will not do anything further. She did end by saying she hopes I will return. Please read the screenshotted email. I have been a member of Marriott's loyalty program since 2007. I have stayed at all brands from The Ritz Carlston to the Fairfield Inn. I did use them as an example, with Hilton, of a place I liked to stay due to the white linens that are changed after every checkout. Obviously not this time. In addition to not returning to this Courtyard, i will never stay at any Marriott owned location which includes The Sheraton, a chain that I have stayed at countless times but never again. This is my warning to potential guests of this location but also of all Marriott owned properties. They do not take care of problems for the guests and make things right. When a service failure occurs, the efforts put into service recovery are laughable.

"Exceptional"

There are some outdated elements of this property but we would definitely stay again. The staff is friendly, helpful, and responsive. We needed clean towels and they were delivered within 10 minutes. Vondella, a manager on duty, was incredible. She went out of her way to help us navigate transportation and local events.

My check in process was quick and easy. The incidental hold amount was the absolute best. The staff on every shift was so polite and friendly. Room was not only extremely clean, its was so comfortable. Just wish the room had a microwave. However, i wil stay here again.
