Super 8 by Wyndham Manchester TN

On our way home from Florida and needed a place to sleep for a few hours. We needed a bed to sleep in, and that’s really all we got. Don’t expect much. Good: staff was friendly, room didn’t stink, clean sheets Bad: no blankets or pillows for the pull out couch, no conditioner, dried bugers on the wall in the bathroom, continental breakfast was supposed to be served from 6-10am, went down at 6:30 and nothing was out, no coffee, no lights on, nothing. Staff was friendly, but new and had no idea what she was doing. It could’ve been worse.

We walked in to our own personal nightmare. We requested a king suite and was given one, however the carpeting in the entryway was coming apart and torn off the floor and wall (ok needs updating) but the musty and moldy smell was off-putting. We turned on the AC hoping the smell would go away while we set things in the room, that is until we found the used needles out in the open. we immediately removed our things and alerted the staff to the problem in the room. I watched multiple members of the staff go in and out of the room to look at them and then only four minutes later they came back in and said the room was fine and nothing was wrong. I’m sorry, but absolutely not. I asked for an alternative room and the next room was just a cloud of smoke and just as musty and dirty besides. No other accommodations or apologies were offered by the staff about the condition of the room or quality of the service. We ended up asking for a refund, which the staff seemed generally confused about and I explained in detail about why we were NOT going to stay there. We went across the street to the Hampton which after that nightmare of an econolodge, was a breath of fresh air. I have stayed at econolodge many, many times and generally prefer them but I think this place will haunt my dreams. I asked the company to Please do something about the condition of the rooms and quality checking. Used needles in a room where my kids could have easily found them is not ok.

Not the worst looking place from the outside but it went from bad to worse. Our first problem was our toilet would not flush. Now take that in...when was the last time it was cleaned if the person cleaning didn't notice it didn't flush! At that point we should have just marched up front and checked out. Instead my husband, Mr. Fixit, fixed the toilet and we tried to rest.There was visible black mold around the tub. The sheets were scratchy and we had upper and lower sheet, two small pillows, a very thin blanket and brocade cover and our mattress smelled of smoke. My husband coughed alll night!. The interstate noise continued all night. Everytime someone walked by, we were in on the conversation. We couldn't control the heat. It was either blazing hot or off and then it got cold so we had to get up and turn it on again. We got a terrible night's sleep! There were missing drawers out of the bureau that the TV was on and I am assuming they are trying to renovate as there was a big box of lamp parts and metal strips in the area where the ice maker was. Our room had unpainted portions where somethings had been removed and left scars.

We stayed here while traveling to Florida. I wrongly assumed, based on price, that this would be a "nicer" Econolodge. It is not. For starters, all the rooms are outside entry with no elevator. Not what you want to deal with after 6 hours on the road. Upon check in (at 11:00 at night) the front desk clerk for some reason felt compelled to tell me that the hotel was quite safe since the police drive by every half hour and also eat at the diner across the road. I didn't realize I was in such an unsafe area, but now I felt really wary. Got to the room and had a king size bed with two of the smallest pillows I have ever seen, to be shared by two people. Breakfast was very mediocre. I generally get up early and like to go to the breakfast room and watch the morning news before my spouse gets up. Well, the young lady "working" was glued to the TV tuned to a Law & Order marathon. Not what I want to see at 7a.m. I will choose other accommodations next time I vacation east.

Not sure how to write a review for this hotel. We needed a place to stay around this area on our way south and I used Choice hotel points to book this, taking a chance on the mixed reviews on TripAdvisor. Apparently this used to be a Super 8 recently, so that explains why the door keys say Super 8 on them. We booked a king 1 br suite room 134 with 8,000 points and it was spotlessly clean, (unlike some of the reviews) but not maintained too well: TV didn't work, front heater didn't work. No towels in the room. Front desk staff was super, got towels right away, tried to fix TV, offered another room but we were already unpacked so decided to stay. Only two small pillows on the king bed ... normally there are more... microwave in room but no small fridge, so we just got more ice for our ice chest. No cups for coffee machine, but front desk lady got cups right away. Other than these surprises, the room was comfortable, bed and linens were good. The breakfast area looked nice, there's coffee available there in the evenings. We did notice the bread and muffins were out too in the evening and were still there in the morning. There were waffles, cereal, and juice too, but as my husband can't eat any of those items, we just ate the breakfast items we always have with us. We had dinner at the Cracker Barrel right next door and turned in early as not only had we had a long drive that day, we had to leave very early the next morning. Would we stay here again? Only maybe. It's so much better than most reviews report, but there are lots of little touches that still could be changed to make it so much better. We thought Choice Hotels would help more with training and ideas?

Checked in about 9:30pm for the night on the way back north returning to Indiana from a vacation in Florida. Traveling with friends and we got two adjoining rooms. At first glance, room looked nice until we got settlers in. There were two drawers missing from our dresser (which we wouldn’t have used anyway). Wary of “critters” we thoroughly inspected the mattress and thankfully didn’t find any stowaways. The carpeted floor looked like it had not been vacuumed in a long time; certainly not after the previous guests. Our bathroom floor was dirty, and when I stepped out of the shower my footprints left dirty footprints. There was heavy dust on the bed frame and furniture. Checking out in the morning, the cement walkways were broken and exposing rebar in places; a potential trip hazard for sure. This hotel cost $78 including tax using our AAA discount. Wasn’t expecting to have 4-Star accommodations at a stopover hotel, but there is no excuse for not having a CLEAN room. Management needs to better oversee their housekeeping staff.

We stayed three nights. The room was nice and nicely cleaned every day. Breakfast was adequate. This is an average motel--not a high end. But the room was large, comfortable and had everything that we needed for a nice stay. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

There was no in-house phone service--couldn't phone the front desk. There was no cell coverage in the room. There was only conditioner--no shampoo. This is not a highlight in the Choice Hotels chain. Didn't even bother to check the breakfast buffet.

Stayed here on a recent trip to Florida. The room was dated there was an odor in the bathroom, the air conditioner was noisy and the hair dryer didn't work. The lock on the room next door wasn't working either. It's a little old and outdated but for Super 8 it's not bad. Wouldn't be my first choice but again it would work in a pinch

I went first to the Hampton Inn across the street on a Tuesday at about 6pm. The desk clerk there could have used better sales skills. They wanted $100 more than I paid at Super 8. At Super 8 I got a clean, quiet room and a better value. I have no trouble recommending this motel.
