RedDoorz near Balekambang City Park

We stayed three nights in RedDoorz near Balekambang City Park. It’s located in a quiet neighbourhood. The young man at the reception is kind. He is doing his best to be hospitable. With a translation app we were able to communicate a little bit.

At arrival we had to ask for clean bedding. On the second evening there wasn’t water in our room for a short time. We had two times bad smelling black water in the toilet. The second time it happened someone from the staff cleaned the toilet. On the second day, during heavy rain, the ceiling started to leak. On request we got an other room. The bedding of the new room also had to be changed first. Other: the airconditioning is very weak and makes too much noise, the unpleasant smell in the bathroom, the metal bathroom door makes a lot of noise, unstable WiFi, no curtains in the second room, in both rooms above the door a small window that doesn’t give the feeling of privacy.

Our experience at this accommodation was disappointing from start to finish. Several issues made our stay uncomfortable and frustrating: First, there was no proper blackout curtain, so light from the hallway streamed into the room all night. The bed was unhygienic, with stained pillowcases, a stained mattress, and a fitted sheet that had visible holes and also had stains. The blanket provided was a fleece blanket—entirely inappropriate for the hot weather—and felt sticky, making us question whether it had been washed. The sheets themselves were greasy to the touch, adding to the feeling of uncleanliness. We ended up putting our own shirts over the pillows just to have some semblance of cleanliness while we tried to sleep. On top of this, we felt a constant, unpleasant crawling sensation all night long, as if something was biting or crawling on us. It was impossible to rest properly with the pervasive feeling of itchiness. The room lacked ambiance, with just one harsh white light overhead. The tiny bathroom smelled terrible, and there was no toilet paper provided as a standard amenity—although a staff member did bring some when we asked. In addition, we were deeply concerned about the welfare of the fish kept in a tank that was far too small for them. This added an unpleasant ethical dimension to our stay. The location is also misleading: while the name suggests proximity to Balekambang Park, it is actually a 30-minute walk away. At a price of 1.5 million rupiah, the value for money was simply non-existent. The air conditioning was old and barely functional, failing to cool the room adequately. Noise was another major issue, as the room was poorly insulated, and we could hear every person entering or leaving the property. On top of all this, we found a list of fines for any damage caused during the stay. This, combined with the fact that they knowingly provided a sheet with holes, gave the impression they might exploit guests to charge extra fees.

Place was great. Building is still new, so everything looks clean and neat. Price is fair, service is great... Overall is great...
