Austin Proper Hotel, a Member of Design Hotels

Our group of 4 had two rooms for the weekend; it was our first visit from DFW. (On a side note for locals, the Vonlane bus was a relaxing and upscale choice.) Pros: Incredible staff, unique and interesting style and decor, outstanding location. Front desk and housekeeping were responsive to a couple of requests we had. We rented a cabana at the pool on a Saturday in August from 11-2. Every chair at the pool was filled with at least one guest by 11, so we were happy to have our own personal space. All cabanas were shady during that time. The service was outstanding, with some extras delivered, including a beautiful and delicious fruit platter. Note that the rental was $175 with a $350 minimum spend. Online photos of this area were hard to find so I have included a couple. We had room service in our suite one night for dinner. All food was hot and delicious. Our drinks were freshly prepared. It’s a short walk to the riverside for exercise. Hestia restaurant is in the same block. We did not eat in any of the restaurants, but enjoyed the art and decor on the first floor very much. We did not visit the gym or spa. We requested singing bowl meditation well in advance from the spa menu, but were not informed of its unavailability until we called to check. Beds and bedding were comfortable for us and bathrooms well stocked. Shower has great pressure. The bathroom in one of our original rooms was cramped, but the replacement room was much larger. The robes are a nice weight for the hot climate. (See below on the room) Con: We booked two premier King rooms, listed at 375 sq ft on the website. One of the rooms was tiny, so small we returned to the desk for a change. Interestingly enough , the only other room in this category was also smaller than the advertised size. We were offered a $100 credit. Turned that down and ended up upgrading to the smallest size suite. The new corner room had gorgeous views. So, beware of the room size descriptions if you are sensitive to this issue. Our other premier King was as advertised. We would book this location again. We hope to spend some time in the gorgeous cocktail bar and maybe try one of the restaurants.

Overall nice hotel. Rooms are nice. The bar downstairs was our only dissapointment. Way to loud and overcrowded. Hotel guest can’t even get a table. Look like a pickup area for young hungry girls that want old men with money!

Really awesome valet guy (Arnold) started the experience off right, great time at the Proper. Dinner at La Piscina, best fajitas in town!

Had the best time, Giulio always has the best customer service in austin and chris and marshal at the bar did an excellent job. truly world class! Highly recommend for anyone who is looking for a nice cocktail and then some dinner at the peacock!

Arnold was a wonderful attendant, very respectful, very timely and very attentive. He made parking at the proper a great experience.

Very contemporary hotel and very hidden. Watch out for all the taxes and extra fees for Austin. Valet parking is $65/night. Bar area was packed on a Saturday night. They do have breakfast until 10am which we did not partake do to our schedule. Only con that I can think of is the bathroom sink area was on the small side. Great location for walking to restaurants. Seems to be safe...lots of people walking arounds

Don't go there if you are a POC. Never been more disrespected. Party of 4 and we sat down at a 2 top, girls sat down @ the table.. boys stood up. Waitress and manager told the guys to sit down or leave . Basically kicked us out for being 4 ppl l. Anyways, treated us like we were trash. For real, not cool. @ Vanessa what was the problem? Had a drink and sat down and my party of 4 was asked to leave cause why??! And what?'!?!!
