Courtyard by Marriott Abilene Southwest/Abilene Mall South

Breakfast availability was very expensive and limited We reserved a handicapped room with a walk in shower which was not available when we checked in This was the reason we decided to stay there I feel like we were misleaded, and will never stay there again

My daughter and I stayed at the Courtyard Abilene on the way to her duty station in CO. We arrived late after a long road trip hoping for a good nights sleep. As soon as we walked into the room (111) we were met with the overwhelming smell of someone having smoked in the room. Due to it being late at night and both of us being too exhausted to ask for another room we didn't let the front desk know. When checking out the next morning I let rep working at the front desk know and was told that they were aware and thought that it was better after having previously dealing with it. No apologies nothing just that she was send a team to clean it again. My intent in making her aware was to prevent the next customer that came through from having to deal with it. Definitely not the customer service or quality of stay which has been why I have picked Courtyard in the past.

The hotel looked fine and the reception area including the bar was excellent. However, they should not claim to have a restaurant in house because the only thing available was breakfast and it was all pre-cooked foods. No free buffet as most hotels provide. My wife and I are elderly but both are mobile and do not use wheel chairs, etc. Because we are more comfortable with safety bars and showers with easy access, we requested a handicapped room. As requested, we were provided a “handicapped room”. The room had only one chair in it and it was a desk chair. We requested an additional chair and was told by staff that they would try to find one. We did not get a an additional chair during our stay. Lighting in the room was at best marginal. It was impossible to see the microwave oven controls without a flashlight. The lighting in the bath room was poorly designed and there was not a light over the freestanding wash basin, making it very difficult to see images in the mirror above the basin. Overall this was not a satisfactory accommodation.

The hotel is well kept. It’s in a nice area, and the rooms are comfortable.

Everything was good except no coffee in the lobby and the coffee shop computers weren’t working. First morning I haven’t had coffee in years.

Room was good with a great A/C. The curb appeal, elevator and pool were not great.
